Wondering if it's going to go "Saw" on us. Remember the part where they said the hacksaw would not work on the grate in the sewer? Can't imagine the saw could not cut through the handcuff chain tho...

Heh, I called it.

I thought this episode was really good. Better than the last. The redneck thing was corny but no worse than when they smeared guts all over themselves.

Yeah, if he left it seems like the zombies would have given up. Its sort of implied in the first episode by the guy and son he meets that while loud noises attract them they tend to give up and shamble off after awhile.

The hacksaw being there didn't mean much to me, since that was about where it was after it fell out of the tool bag. I suppose one could argue that it being in the same shot as his hand was suppose to convey its use.

By the way, the makeup effects are fantastic in this. I can honestly say this has some of the scariest and best looking zombies I've seen in anything.

Only 3 more episodes? Damn, just as it was getting good. I was hoping this got a full-boat first season like Mad Men and Rubicon. No AMC show should ever be short-changed again with their current track record.

yup. I assumed he was going to cut through the pipe. the hand thing...retarted.

I was thinking that either:

he jumped down and offed himself
he jumped to another nearby roof?

whatever happens...he will likely return as a one-handed zombie.

well obviously the guy wasn't all there in the head. In the beginning of the episode they made a point of showing him losing his mind.

Whaaat only 6 episodes per season?!

nah, they've already said that a full order for a 12-13? episode season 2 has been placed.

also, 6 episodes...when I heard "3 more episodes left" last night...I just assumed they were going to punk out and take a 2 month break, then cram the other half of the season down our throats during sweeps week or something like that.

seems to be the current strategy these days.

But, if they only did give them a 6 episode season, then the order for a second season really did happen last week or so, then it will probably be a year or so before we see anything new.

bah.

Double bah!

I want more! I want more!
** Goes into a tantrum***

I knew the first season was only going to be six episodes, but that's mainly because being in Atlanta I was aware they were only filming six episodes initially. I'm still sad they didn't accept my application to be a zombie extra.

I could play a damn good zombie. You should see me when I'm not even trying to act during the first 3 hours of the day at my desk at work!!

Concerning the hacksaw and hand, he probably did cut his hand off with the hacksaw because of how little time he had. May have given the cuffs/pipe a shot, but he couldn't even reach the hacksaw at the end of the intro, and the zombies appeared to be bending the door just enough to be able to make it through (almost).

Car alarm back to camp, stupid, but meh, he just drove through a city full of zombies on an adrenaline high, straight thinking could go to hell.

Apartment store. Ya, i woulda thought they would at elast try to barricade the door. The windows were glass though, so it wouldn't have made much of a difference. Those display cases weren't going anywhere.

Now if we want to nit-pick, I'd like to ask why no one has commandeered a gun store yet. With so many weapons available, you'd think someone would just take over a store and start shooting.

Already done in Dawn of the Dead.

A gun shop would be one of the very first things to get broken into when everything started to go to hell in a hand basket. Also since ATL was suppose to be a safe zone I'm sure what ever was not looted asap was looted once the army came. Most ammo and weapons are probably on the street or on some of the military walkers.

Did anyone else feel awful for that horse? In movies I always feel bad when horses are killed in battle, moreso than the people because people are assholes. He leads the horse to the city under false pretenses, saying the city is filled with other awesome horses for him to hang out with. The horse quickly gallops under the assumption he's going to get laid. What actually happens? There are NO other horses in the city, hardly any greenery and the guy riding him runs him right into a pack of zombies where he gets eaten alive.

poor horse 🙁

Nope, don't get AMC here unfortunately. I've heard good things about the show, so I'll be interested in checking it out eventually.

The show sucks for right now I have only watched the first 2 episodes, but I will watch the rest it is just going to be at the end of the list of shows to watch.

Like everyone else, I'm enjoying this show, but some of it seems kind of dumb.

The handcuffed guy... I can understand how the hacksaw wouldn't cut through the handcuffs, but hacksaws are made to cut through bolts just like the ductwork bolt he was handcuffed to. So he goes straight for the wrist without even trying to cut the bolt???? Really?

And once he cut himself free, exactly how was it that he got off the roof of the skyscraper? The door to the stairwell was chained shut.

For everyone complaining about this, the obvious implication when we last saw him were that those zombies were about to squeeze through that chained door. If one of them got free, his only option in the available time might have been to go for the hand. Also notice that the zombies were no longer behind the door when they came up to the roof looking for him. I have no idea how he got off the roof though.

<future spoiler removed>

Loki, you really shouldn't post spoilers derived from the comic without special labeling. People will probably assume that it's safe to look at spoiler tags if they are up to date on the current TV episode. It didn't bother me since I've read the comic, but many have not.

Do the comics state how it all started?

He was in the hospital when it all started and was probably being tended to when the hospital was over-run. The flowers look to be about 1 week old (But that would mean his buddy brought him flowers 2-3 weeks into the beginning. Also, I wonder if he was left behind because of something his buddy did? tHe wife said he was suppose to be medivac'ed out).

Could any of the vehicles/aircraft at the hospital be functional or did they all look to be burnt out. I did not notice.

I am enjoying the show so far (I had no idea it was based on anything before reading this thread). It is definitely a show I only watch on DVR (I cannot stand commercial breaks during tense moments).

nah, we never know much more than Rick knows.

comic spoilers:

there's a character introduced who's supposedly working for the CDC and investigating the disease, but it turns out that he's a pathological liar
