Just watched it with the lady friend. WOW. Well done. Not worried about it breaking new zombie-ground at this point. It's really the first zombie-series, and other than this there aren't really any horror-series on tv right now (say true blood and I'll feed you to a walker)

There were a few sentences with durations in them, but I can't remember what they were off the top of my head. I think one was something around a month, so he was at least in a coma for that long.

Early in the show the part in dark in the stairwell was done pretty good I thought.

Watched it last night. Better than anything Romero's done in 30 years. Never read the comic so I have not idea where it's going, but so far it's pretty awesome. Humanizing the zombies is something Romero has tried but was never really successful with IMO. I think the Hawkings from Jericho with his wife scene really nailed it.

Finally sat down and watched the premier. Wow, this series is going to be good. Definitely has the "end of everything" feel that gets you freaked out watching it. Treating the zombies as more than just walking targets is a nice change too. Definitely going to be watching weekly.

Is humanizing bad things a Frank Darabont thing? The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, stuff like that. I rewatched the scene where the cop shoots the lady in the park, while the other guy is struggling to shoot his wife. Fantastic piece of filmmaking. So tense and sad at the same time, you really felt the angst in the guy's inability to shoot. Then when the cop says " I'm sorry this happened to you" , you felt sorry for the lady amd hoped he would shoot her just to end it. And they are zombies for god's sake!

I too am trying to figure out the timeline. He was in a coma for how long and able to survive? The one scene that threw me was when they were in the police station and the guy told the cop that there would be no hot water for the showers because the gas had been off for a month. Interesting. Other than that, I now have a favorite TV show to look forward to watching for the next 5 weeks.

I think this aspect usually depends on the interpretation of what makes them a zombie. It sounds like this show considers the zombies to be essentially animalistic humans or humans with only instincts and no rational thought. Heck, even the velociraptors in Jurassic Park could open doors 😉.

Although, I know what you mean... in a lot of movies and TV shows, zombies aren't exactly very bright.

I'm kind of wanting to pick up the comic for this, but I'm worried I'll be disappointed if they deter too much from the book.

Its one of the reasons I didn't like the Kick ass move as much as the book. It ended on a tragic pathetic note that made it a lot better than the cheesy Hollywood ending the movie had.

that irked me a little, but I'll give them a pass for storytelling purposes. I don't recall zombies in the books acting like that, but it's not like the zombies have any significant intelligence. I'd imagine that bashing a rock against something is an act that any animal with opposable thumbs would do.

I assume he had been out about a month, but then how did he survive without liquids? How long did the IV bag last? Maybe there were still nurses tending to him up until a week or two before; perhaps they couldn't move him and so he was left there while Zombpocalypse 2k10 was starting.

Last night's episode was interesting. Do you think his wife was having an affair with the guy beforehand? Because otherwise it seems like she started banging him like 3 weeks into the zombie epidemic, which even given the circumstances seems way too quick. Also the new group of people that he met in that building...they seem to have VERY little personality, or just can't act. I'm hoping they get eaten or don't figure prominently in the series.

I'm guessing about 2 weeks or so. The flowers, that his cop friend left, were pretty dried out and wilted bad but not totally dead (all brown).

and his partner is talking about "woman who can't even turn off lights" etc... there was a lot of sexual innuendo in that conversation too.

So far I am loving this series! I am sooo glad the zombie genre is alive and well!

I didn't think the zombies are acting too smart, I mean it's nothing like that stupid newer Romero movie (I think it was Romero? One of the new "___ of the dead" flicks) where there was a zombie cop who became some sort of leader and rallied his zombie friends to follow him around the city opening doors and eventually walking underwater to the island refuge. Picking up the rock was probably the only thing getting close to acting intelligently and is almost reaching that invisible border of being too smart for a zombie IMO.

But trying to open the doorknob I didn't feel was anywhere close - I related it to the "zombie habits" we seen so often in popular zombie culture - like in the original dawn of the dead where the zombies continued to congregate to the mall and walk around just like they used to when alive. So I figured the mom was just doing what she used to do before she died, walking up to the house she died trying to get inside again.

I think the most fanastic thing is the film quality. The way the zombies look, the way the barren cities look, the scenery, the way they think about how a gas station or a hospital for example might look during post apocalypse and the neat details they added to spice up your imagination - for example in the hospital the locked zombies with the grafiti "dont open dead inside" and the bullet hole riddled wall with all the ceiling tiles missing and wires hanging down it gets you thinking just what the hell went down there without spelling it all out for you. Very well done! I hope this series has a long life and does not crash like my other favorite post apocalyptic series - Jericho.
