Hi,
I have just purchased the lord of the rings dvd and watched it for the first time last night (awesome movie) and now I would like to back it up, but don't know the best way of doing so. I have done 2 previous back ups, but I was displeased with the quality. I have read the guides on doom9 and vcdhelp but I'm still confused. What is the best dvd ripper? I have used smartripper, it seems to work fine. And also I would like to retain as much quality as possible and ac3 5.1 sound is a must. What codec should I use? Divx? Windows media 9?(I heard the new version includes support for 5.1 audio)
thanks in advance

edit: sorry about the caps guys, I just wanted to get more attention. Now I would really appreciate it if someone would please help me out.

Try DVD2SVCD. Straight forward and you'll be able to play it on your DVD player (if it supports SVCD's)

edit: nevermind, you said you wanted 5.1 sound

In all honesty, it's probably the most cost effective. Ripping and encoding and then burning to multiple CD-Rs just takes a lot of time and manual tending.

Wait until the Extended version comes out in November. There'll be a TON of used theatrical version DVDs on the market.
