Ok now I'm hearing Philly and Newark are in the process of being shutdown due to FAA orders.

Who knew this possibly happen? No one could see this coming. Its really unprecedented and people are saying that it couldn't possibly have been foreseen. No one knew that government workers did so many things that helped the country run smoothly. Its just amazing.

Meanwhile president dickhead and his snotnosed soon in law were talking of maybe opening the gov for three weeks if Dems would make a "substantial" down payment on the Wall, and something something about prorated payments.

Still not getting it...

Well I've got to fly from BWI to SFO, via ATL in 2 weeks. I keep thinking it sucks that I still haven't gotten around to initiate my free Global Entry qualifications....but at the same time, none of that is working right now anyway, right? lol

I heard ground stop. I assume the incoming flights are priority, since they may not have manpower to handle all the potential diversions.

It's not a complete stop yet. Trump has these people working over their usual shifts of 6 ten hour days and people break down when pushed beyond human limits. Both union AND FAA regulations mandate that workers call out if they are burned out until they recover so this is entirely legal and proper. If air traffic has to end, then so be it. People who are too tired to think and see can't safely take the lives of millions on themselves.

Pretty much every time I fly, I fly out of BWI, and I have Global Entry and my wife does not. Typically I'm only through there in like 5 minutes max, faster than she is. The really only benefit is not having to take all my electronics out of my backpack. You aren't really saving much time using GE though, at least not at BWI.

Via Drudge:
It would appear that, over the next week / month, air traffic in this country may ground to a halt. So much for two day delivery. Do people need to fly?

Up next, millions hungry and homeless. Not a side effect, but a direct cause and effect via absentia of funds to those people. Such consequences cannot be avoided if the shutdown persists. Image if Basic Income existed in this nation. It already does, though in limited fashion. Now imagine if it suddenly stopped.

Shall we tell the American people to eat cake, or do we want a better outcome this time?

Ok...so the ground stop at LaGuardia was lifted less than an hour after issued. The conspiracy theorist in me wants to know--Was this a stunt to get headlines, or did higher ups at FAA cave to political pressure to downplay this? Or was this all on account of a few folks being late to work this morning?

Think about this. Before 10:30 AM Eastern time Stone was arrested under a virtually ironclad indictment, Trump's bank in Germany is being looked into for their relationship with Russia and relationships to "ahem" someone in the US AKA Trump, and the beginning of what must be substantial delays and eventual shutdown of air traffic.

Trump's theme song for today is...

You could not work 80 hours a week under their conditions and neither can they. Delays remain as people are shuffled from other locations. When they break (not if), then what?

Air traffic control breaks and it will be like 9/11 with no planes flying.

I have to fly from BOS to SFO in mid February for work. That's going to suck a lot if this stupid TrumpShutdown isn't over by then.

It should be noted that GE and TSA Precheck are two different programs. The advantage from Precheck is usually kind of limited but I've bypassed a few major security waits in my time. If you do GE you get automatic TSA Pre though.

Global Entry itself however is fucking gold. No wait at all when coming back into the US. I got back from Mexico into ORD on Sunday and there appeared to be (at least) hundreds of people in line for the regular controls. So many they overflowed the holding area and spilled down the hallways back towards the gates. CBP looked short staffed. I was probably home before any of the non GE people on our flight even got to their baggage.

So, so glad I don't have to fly for work right now. It's bad enough in normal times IMO.

Now you have more waiting, and likely more chance of death due to overworked, unpaid plane inspectors and air traffic controllers. I'm sure those that are coming in are feeling highly-motivated.

I mean, why don't they just take out a loan and go back to work?

That question might have been the most out of touch thing I have ever heard.

But they should be able to get the loan at a low interest rate, right? Because, you know, the loan is "government backed". WTF

So we've got the potential shutdown of American aviation, a coup in Venezuela, and Roger Stone indicted...

Anything else going on today?
