I don't know, I just can't seem to find a wagon that appeals to me, maybe the forester, but thats pretty close to an SUV. I am just not a big fan of the shape of a wagon. But I never thought I would consider a minivan either, so who knows, maybe it could happen. The mazda6 was on my list, and they have a decent wagon version. But according to consumer reports its reliability isbelow average.

Any idea what cars of say 10 years old or less have dual climate control for the front driver and passenger? Its not a need, but my fiancee and I are totally differant when it comes to a nice tempature, so it may help to limit down what I have to choose from.

I don't know maybe a compact SUV isn't a bad idea. Its what she wants. The CRV is one she likes, and its reliable, and has a low TCO on edmunds. The only problem with that is that it would stick me back in the maxima(which i can't complain about), I just have the new car itch. But I will deal with it, and I wills till get to drive the CRV from time to time.

I am still looking into the wagons though.

I just got a new (used) Toyota, '91, 163K on it, but new exhaust, new timing belt, new brakes, new snows (extra set for winter), perfect interior, CD player left by previous owner, very well cared for, little to no rust. I'll beat it into the ground over the next year or two, only paid $1k for it.

And I can get one of those for under 500 per month? Probablly not, unless I plan to pay for it for 8-10 years.

CRV, Rav4. The new CRV is nice. Honda elements might be fugly, but it is very practical...and for your situation, its a pretty good fit. why not just test drive it and see how you like it. Its not like a minivan look a whole lot better.

And when you looking for a family car, I'm sure that exterior design shouldn't be on top of your list.

I must admit, i don't know much about the element, what about it makes it a better fit, then say the CRV or a minivan? Again I am not disagreeing with you, just want to know why you say that.

Edit: from edmunds, the element seems like a car more for the outdoors type of people, rather then a family car. The CRV seems a better option for a family. But still let me know your thinking on it.

I am also looking into the Hyundai Tucson. Its relatively cheap, and has a decent warranty, as well as decent options.

Okay, I went ahead and googled it, and it appears to be about 30 years old or so. So I take it that was a joke.

If you want a good reliable minivan with a decent pricetag, checkout the Mazda MPV.

Okay, so i was looking at the 2002 Honda CRV again. I see in my CR book that the CRV had side air bags optional after 2002. But when appraising a 2002 EX AWD on edmunds, the only option is the auto tranny. Whos right?

OH nevermind, after more looking, i now see they are optional on the lower level EX, and standard on the EX model.

I should also add that with my fiancee, she does not have to have something new every few years. She will probablly keep whatever vehicle she gets until it dies. So resale value isn't much of a concern. Not to say i wouldn't buy a honda with its high resale value. But it should not be a major factor.

Um kinda, I(well mor elikely my fiancee) needs a new vehicle. We currently have one child who is almost 4 and we soon hope to have another. She kinda wants and SUV, I figured a minivan was more practical(and cheaper, but apprently this isn't really the case)some have mentioned wagons as another option, but I don't like them, and she said she would never buy a wagon. But i think she is used to her dads old POS wagon(not sure what kind). But the more I read, I am wondering if we could probablly get away with another decent sized car(already have a '97 maxima).
