Well it's a done deal! It took only about an hour which was nice, and then the wife and I went to the house to go in on our own, and I brought some beer in for the guys who are helping me move on Saturday, so the fridge is stocked with about 3 dozen beers.

Here's some pics I snapped today.

The 3rd and 2nd to last pics, between the fuse panel and the window, is exactly where my projector screen is going to be 🙂

EDIT - 8/29/2012 - 1:30pm

I am now leaving work and settlement is in one hour! Still feeling a little nervous but I know all will be well after. It's weird because I don't even know if we're going to go to the house right afterwards or not, since we aren't moving in until Saturday. I will have to go beforehand though to stock the fridge with beer for my buddies helping us move.

No, not marriage, already did that.

But tomorrow I'm signing a paper that will put me in a huge commitment to the biggest debt of my life.

The wife and I are closing on our first home tomorrow.

I'm kind of nervous about it even though everything has been going smoothly. I think it's just because it is our first home, and it is a total new beast for me, considering we're coming from a 800sqft 1 bedroom apartment.

Needless to say I'm excited, and already planning my home theater in it 🙂

EDIT:

Here's a couple pics of where I was contemplating doing the HT setup.

First 2 are the first split level area right when you walk down from the entrance. I initially was thinking there (that is the current owners furniture, not ours), but now I'm just going to put a TV on the wall there but no sound system.

I've now decided I'm going to go with a projector in the basement, which is the 3rd pic there, with the wide open area.

Home theatre in 3 weekends.

House maintenance equipment this weekend.

Breaking in those equipment items the following weekend.

Good Luck and enjoy.

As long as you are not in an attached unit; you can make as much noise together as you want.

Going to be in the same boat shortly. Cannot wait to be able to turn up these speakers and have an actual setup. Congrats!

How do you know this CrackRabbit?

Because I've spent 4 hours in my attic (so far) trying to figure out why the previous owner thought it was a good idea to play electrician. Gave myself a nasty shock as well, 120v current will leave your arm feeling funny for a while.

Yeah its a huge debt in your life time. but at lease ur not throwing Rent money down a dark hole. I don't know what your interest expense is, but when I rented I was nervous about the fact that I could for the same price own a crappy house down the road and at lease sell out with equity when i moved.

Good Luck, and get your handy man hat on.

I like the 3rd picture......perfect for a man cave......or hiding bodies from your meth business.

Luckily I don't have to worry much about that. The house is 100% move in ready. We don't have to do anything at all to it, not even paint.

And all of the work they did on the house (including electrical work) has permits and was done to code.

Obviously with a house there will be some maintenance, but the initial maintenance is going to be how to wire my HT up behind the walls and mount a projector and speakers on the ceiling.

Then you get to find all the really fun things the previous owner did.
Ask me how I know this.

I discovered that the two previous owners had used cable and dish for entertainment.

Duplicate cable wiring to every room. 🙁
Splitter box is in a crawl way for the dish system.

You would think that the cable people would have just disconnected the cable line from the dish and hooked into the house feed..

No, they had to run their own lines all around the house.

Some weekend, I am going to see if there is a way to tap back into the dish system and remove the outside cable lines.

3rd one looks cool for a man cave.

We plan on putting the HT down there, my arcade cabinet, a mini-bar, and eventually a pool table (if there is room for all that, which I think there is).

I will get more pics once we're moved in because I plan to do some schematics of how I want to do my setup, before I do anything.
