2009 Malibu. Great mid sized car for that era. I bought it because I wanted a no nonsense transportation that was comfortable, easy on the wallet, and didn't beg for aftermarket parts. I shouldn't regret it, but I do. I miss having fun.
Seriously, a FWD general purpose sedan can look rather pleasant in factory form.
But nothing is more ghetto than some Accord/Camry/whatever when someone slaps even the most conservative aftermarket rims on it.
In the end it saved me money. The only non-maintenance parts I bought were decent floormats and a cheap plate frame to replace the dealer one.
Maybe I'll buy a Mustang or an SS, or an ATS.

congrats on the ES. people rag on it all the time but it's just really a nice car and has tons of space.

I consider the ES the FWD brother to the GS, with only slightly softer styling, equally quality interior and more room in the cabin.

I hate losing money, more than most people....it usually eats my soul to even think about it but today, it didn't. It's done....gone....started over after a seven hour stay at the Lexus dealership (5 hours of negotiating on two different cars and 2 hours of driving - something that I couldn't do in the BMW without nearly needing medical attention for my back). 2016 ES350. I'm so happy at the difference in comfort that I don't care about the money. Just time to start over and know what to look for the next time, especially a LONG test drive in various traffic. Lesson learned and move on. Time to quite staying up nights worrying about stupid shit like this and just move on, as life it really too short.

Thanks to those in this thread that made me realize that. I think I should start using that more in my life in general.

On a side note, I don't think it's normal for my back should hurt as much as it did on the BMW so I'm thinking about having it checked out. Losing weight (about 40 pounds) would be very helpful too.

congrats on getting a car that fits.

My father was a foreman at GM, he used to buy a new car and a new truck every year that was the latest and greatest, the sell them off cheap to someone else in the family the next year.

I forget when in the 70's the X-Cars came out, he bought one when they came out. That thing lasted maybe one day in the driveway and went straight back to the dealership 🙂

The early model diesel Olds 88's were pretty horrible with the injectors, we had one of those also. Car was nice, black 4 door with leather interior, looked like a small limo. Those engines were a PITA though.

Side note: Anyone wanting the ENET programming cable for an F30 series car, I'll be happy to give it away and just charge shipping (USPS whatever).

It's this one....

Tight muscles can also be an issue. Stretching and massage will be useful for you. A therapist is more expensive, but a good one can help you pinpoint areas. Or you can then attack sore spots first with tools like rollers, balls(lacrosse, baseball, golf ball, etc). And the type of masaage that would be more effective is deep tissue or myofasicial release. Swedish is too superficial.

If you have to enlist the services of a masseuse to alleviate the pain from driving a particular vehicle, it's way past time to dump said vehicle.

Man it would really suck to own a car you hate as you remind yourself why you hate it every single day -- no break.

It's even worse when the car you hate cost you an arm and a leg...

The only thing worse is marrying a girl only to discover you hate each other...

OK, how about marrying a girl you hate then buying a car you hate...

Fortunately, I love my wife! 🙂

So how much of a hit did you take? My guestimate is $8k.

I ended up financing $6,750 more than what was owed on the BMW (payment went from $403 to $520 but hope to lower it by re-financing through Penfed at a lower rate). Not sure if that states how much I lost or not as the car is a year newer and priced differently. I really haven't broken it down to each vehicle other than how much more I had to add to the bank note. I think I could have gotten a better trade had I got up, went home and waited for them to call. At that point, I was OK to live with the payment and decided to put and end to it all and just go ahead with it. I hate losing money but at have no regrets on doing what I did.

I can't say I've ever bought a car new and hated it afterwards. I love my new SS. I wouldn't have bought it new for $48K and then immediately sunk another $12K in mods into it if I didn't know whether I would end up liking it or not.

Kudos for being open and decisive. Might serve as warning to others. Check my math I count on my fingers and toes.

BMW = roughly $44k
Lexus = roughly $36K
Difference around $8k.
$120.- added to the payment x 60 mo = $7200.-

Roughly $15k whack for bad seats. 😱 Twice as much as I thought. That Lexus dealer did well for themselves.

The $7200, which is actually $7020 (117 * 60), is because of a higher interest rate. The $6750 plus interest goes to $7020. Old rate was 1.49%, new rate is 1.9%. Funny how a 0.25% rate hike will change things that much when it comes to YOU borrowing.

By the way, were your guesses supposed to be MSRP or what I paid for the vehicles (before loss)?

By the way, it wasn't really very decisive. It was very hard. It's difficult to cut your losses and move on. The reason that I probably did this was because of a 100% stock loss years ago. I was hit by a 'cheating CEO' on a stock. It was dropping (hard) and I held on HOPING it would rebound, instead of cutting it loose and trimming my losses. My 'hoping' turned into a 100% loss. I didn't want this situation to turn into a hopeless, money pit of a loss, so I decided to eat it now instead of hoping it would get better (somehow) while still piling money into it.

All cars are money pits. More expensive ones are larger money pits. Ultimately, they all end up in a scrapyard, some more quickly than others.

Cars are not investments, they're purchases.

True, but some purchases give you more enjoyment for the money than others. You'll never get a monetary return on your purchase, but the enjoyment and utility needs to be worth the money you give up as well. I know I'd never be able to get a European car. Just the maintenance costs alone would be enough to ruin it for me.

I'll be going Lexus myself too if I ever go down that road.

Nothing wrong with an ES350. Nice cars. My folks are looking at buying one right now. Not quite my speed, but different strokes yah know.

Update: Not sure if I mentioned this but when my wife and I went into the finance office at Lexus, the agreed upon 'out the door' price was wrong (by over $2,000) on the Sales Contract. The finance person, when told that it was wrong, rolled his eyes upward, started whistling and slowly rotated his chair toward his PC monitor (was really a giant ass). He looked over the paperwork and started entering in numbers until the correct number came up. We signed the sales contract and went home.

Fast forward to today and received a refund for $2,048 sales tax. In Kentucky, you pay sales tax on the difference between your purchased car and your trade in. The finance guy had placed FULL sales tax on the original contract (making it over $2k higher than the price agreed). Instead of lowering the sales tax, he lowered the car price down until the number for 'out the door' matched what we had agreed on. By doing that, we were still charged the full sales tax on the sale price.

They have caught this and have refunded the sales tax ($2048.46). In reality, he lowered the car price down by approximately $2xxx.xx to get the price right. We signed the sales contract at that lower price and have now been refunded the sales tax. Actual discount on the car is now near $9,000 off of sticker. Yes, we took a bath on the BMW but this really eases some of that.
