What the hell is going on!! Because of slow pc sales AMD lost or was even this quarter. Now there stock is going lower. Intel goes up when AMD has bad news but when Intel has bad news AMD goes down. This is bs. AMD is oviously a better company at the moment and there stock deserves to be better.

What does everyone thing about this?

AMD is better than Intel? In what way? Price performance ratio? I would concur that an AMD processor is better using a price/performance ratio for the hobbiest cpu buyer.

1) What about the large corporate business?

If a product is "better or worse" than another product has nothing to do with a Q4 loss report.

Sales are down, the economy is slowing. ALmost every company has been effected by this. iS AMD excempt from nationwide economic slowdown because they make good products, no.

Stocks are a bit finicky. When intel goes down, and takes AMD with it, it is because of 'percieved' slowdown in the CPU market. But as you've said, the slowdown also effected AMD, so their stock went down for a reason.

I agree...and I'm an AMD fan. Regardless of how much "better" the Athlon or Duron is than it's Intel counterparts...it doesn't matter if big corperations aren't putting them in their machines. Look at dell...no amd chips anywhere...same with quite a few others. It is also hard to compete with the name Intel...you see the problem.

Intel makes a lot more than just processors and system chipsets. Are you forgetting their massively expanding networking department?

Im just getting a little nervous because the only stock I own is AMD. I just wish that all people would relize that they would save money and most likly get more performance from an AMD cpu. They are so dumb to fall for the PIV scheme. But they will never learn. Im not saying that Intel is all bad. I still think they are a good company and I like there cpu's. They are just a little evil ;)

I beleive all corporations are down right now.
I work at Daimler-Chrysler and were laid off for a month
Auto industries are laying off right now. Ford and GM also.
The econnomy is in a dead zone as we can't even elect a President right so no one is making any large purchases right now,
This trend always happens when we elect a new President, as people are uncertain of the outcome.
Consumer confidence is at a all time low, since the 1969 year.
Companies will rebound but I beleive it will continue untill the middle of next year.
Are we headed into a recession again, seems to happen every time a new President is elected.
AMD will bounce back as soon as they get the new motherboards and chips shipping.
Amd is spending alot of money on other resources right now.
I know we posted a loss for the 4th quarter also, because of the builing of 2 new plants at a cost of 1 billion dollars.
The economy will turn in time, but right now it's going to be a slow period where everyone is cutting back, the trickle down effect.

AMD did NOT lose money this quarter, but they also did not meet the high expectations that the ananlysts had forecast.

Yahoo/reuters
"AMD said its fourth-quarter sales will be flat to nominally higher than the prior quarter's $1.2 billion. The company also said it now anticipates fourth-quarter net income in the range of 50-60 cents a share, depending on the relative strength of PC processor sales in the closing weeks of the quarter."

Might be a good time to pick up a few shares.

I think it might be a good idea to change the heading of this thread, it is misleading.

Talking about yahoo.

At the start of this year they were 130+billion company.

Now at the end they are 4 billion company.

Maybe they should call themselves Boohoo :(

heh, just watch guys..

first off, I'd like to say that I sortof saw this coming, and you guys shouldn't make a big deal. it's intel's turn at bat. AMD has dropped the ball in keeping them off balance (they've allowed Intel to return to the plate).

now a look at the big view..

a few announcements like this will start create a snowball effect. the problem will get bigger and bigger.

if the people who trade are as short sighted as I think, this could be a year where the economy isn't as good as the last. for the States, you have had a few great years. your economy has been booming. I would not be surprised if it dips somewhat this year.

The whole issue with tech stocks is real value versus perceived value. Yahoo and so many other tech stocks went sky high (remember Palm) because of sex appeal, not real value. What is Yahoo's net profit for 2000? That said, Yahoo is not even worth 4 billion, IMO. What are Yahoo's assest's, projections for hard profit? If you buy and play stocks apart from P/E ratio, is not a "stock" in the classical sense of the work, your treating it like a commodity and betting on the demand for that stock, not value/dividends of the stock.

Both Intel and AMD are good stocks right now; they both have P/E's under 20. I think AMD is the better of the two stocks right now, with a P/E of around 6 (I think).

Yahoo and the like are commodities, IMO.

I honestly feel this is due to AMD's incredibly low prices. While its good for the consumer, it kills AMD's gross margins per processor.

another reason for intels stock rising is the fact that they announces they have developed the worlds smallest transistor

Don't assume for a second that the value of the stock is based on anything but the group mentality of a stupid, irrational, greedy mass of people looking for their own selfish gain. Even though AMD CPU's are better than Intel CPU's in every conceivable category, and have been proven as such by every objective industry observer, that means nothing to the millions of investors looking for that next quick turn-around.

Another big problem is the idiotic corporate mentality: "No one ever got fired for buying Intel." In other words, if you recommend Intel and something goes wrong, it's blamed on software or hardware other than Intel, but if you recommend AMD and something goes wrong, it's blamed on you and AMD. Of course, AMD platforms are exactly as stable as Intel platforms and no one has ever shown otherwise, but this means nothing to mindless middle-management types who would rather waste money and contribute to a near-monopoly than give an underdog a chance and promote competition while achieving a better value for their slimy corporate dollar.

And worst of all are the evil, slick salesmen in Best Buy and Future Shop that steer you towards the latest overpriced Intel garbage and tow the party line of "a better Internet experience". To the first-time buyers wandering the glittering isles of the mega-stores, armed with only the cruel misinformation of corrupt supermarket rags like PC Magazine, urging them to actually consider a name brand computer system from Dell or HP or Compaq as possibly serving some valuable purpose in this universe, for which of course they should be shot and their brains sold as bulk cattle feed.

What was I saying?

Damn modus my brain is like mush now.

If AMD went on like a nation wide tour to promote thier future and current generation chips would that help them in the market or not?

Huh do you have a clue what your talking about? It was only AMD.... Intel AND AMD where below expected levels this quarter due to slowing sales..... its not just AMD... this has NOTHING to do with P4... P4 is selling like crap so its not taking away sales.

Guys c'mon here.. why are you getting so worked up? Sure some of you might own stocks in the company and all... but what can you do about it? Just sit back and go along for the ride... if it gets to the point where you don't like the ride no more... abandon and sell the shares. =) jeez, you guys are gonna give yourselves a heart attack...

By the way... GO AMD!!! I'm loving their new prices! Just wish I could find a 1.2 ghz in stock. I'd hate to settle for a 1.1...

I think AMD should make a few more TV commercials (spelling?) I've only ever seen one, when the Athlon was first introduced. If my grandma goes to Best Buy to get a computer to surf the internet she sees on the the shelf Intel Pentium III and thinks oh that's that commercial with those cute blue guys I want one of them. (This accually happend) Luckily I was there to help with her purchase. Saved her about $600 in the end.

without competition intel could charge outrageous prices and make outrageous profits. amd provided the competition to bring the prices down which also decreased the profit margin. i bought an unused amd 650 for $85 which cost $839 when first released. great for me, bad for the dow jones average.

Hey, good point about them commercials... where the heck are the AMD commercials? If AMD only relies on fanboys like us to spread the word, they aren't going to get very far. Hope they come up with something to beat the crap outta the blue guys... speak of the devil, I'm watching monday night football, and that blue men intel commercial just came on...
