Got mine today. Going to be used to pay our mortgage during the summer since my wife doesn't get paid in the summer (teacher)

A more effective approach to stimulating the economy would be to distriubute prepaid visa/mastercards instead. People would have no other option but to spend the money.

If a VISA/MasterCard cash card, they could just buy a money order and deposit it.

With a debit card yes, with a cash card, it depends. With a credit card, no.

If it were a true "credit" card then they could just milk it via PayPal and deposit it, or sell the damned card. If they really wanted cash out of it they can find a way.

QFT.

Didn't the government give a lot of those cards to the victims of Katrina and discover that people either sold them, bought luxury items or were not victims of the hurricane in the first place?

Yes. Google Katrina debit card abuse. It will turn up several examples.

Found this in my search. It is not an example of what we are talking about, but it is somewhat amusing.

I now have my $600 rebate. Just checked my bank balance. 🙂
This will finance my vacation in June.

So, here's a question:

I owed the IRS some money this year, which I paid via direct deposit.

Am I still on track to receive my check by...well...today? My SSN ends in 13.

Got my rebate check today. I'm going to turn the economy around with my $11.00!!

How the hell do they determine how much you get?

yes people paying bills, getting stuff they have wanted, etc are idiots. really thats silly

Be smart and save your money as the dollar contiues to lose it's purchasing power. That $12 you could buy 3 gallons of gas with today will likely get you 2 gallons next year, outstanding fiscal management philosphy Phokus.

How many that don't qualify exceed the SS cap? You really think you pay more in "taxes", that your take home pay is a smaller %? While the majority of Americans have that huge SS chunk taken out of every paycheck you get to keep that extra $.

This will tell you if/when/how much of a rebate you will recieve.
