Last night our 35" Mitsubishi CRT TV in the bedroom would not turn on. For just a moment, the thoughts of a new HD LCD flashed through my head - I even think I pictured me and the TV running towards each other in slow-mo in a field of daisies. Then I unplugged it for a few seconds and plugged it back in and, damn it if the stupid thing started working again.

I don't qualify. Enjoy my money, folks.

Same here. Argh!!!

Most of us paid more than $600 in taxes this past year. We are only getting a percentage of our own money back. We are not getting any of yours.

That money was already used on government services, your share of defense budget, etc.
It's not like there was money left over for rebate, since government was already in a big deficit. The point is people like me who pay most in taxes aren't getting any refund, but will be paying more to pay off the debt created to pay for this stimulus. So yes, you are getting some of my money, enjoy it.

So how much do you make at year moneybags? You seem to be pretty upset that you aren't seeing $600.

I am not upset about the money so much as it being called a tax rebate when in fact it's just a handout that is financed by borrowing. Tax rebates implies that people getting it overpaid in taxes, which is not the case.
If you follow my politics on P&N, I am a big proponent of progressive taxation, even if it hurts me. I would be for removing SS cap for example, even though I don't pay SS taxes all year.

I can agree with that, I just don't agree with you saying that you are paying for my "refund" when I (along with most of us here) am not very far under the 75k mark. I have been paying out the ass with little tax breaks, that is until this year when I finally get my own house and get married. Maybe I will get a better break next April.

Is this the revised schedule, or the original one?

That's the original. You can check on irs.gov if you wanna.

Fern

I think this is still accurate. Check out the bolded and underlined part above.

Also, on irs.com (http://www.irs.gov/irs/article/0,,id=180250,00.html) is says,

People who use direct deposit also will be among the first to receive the payments starting April 28. The first cycle of paper checks will be mailed starting May 9 and continuing through May 16.

I am paying for a part of your refund, yes. It's like when 4 people go to a restaurant, one person doesn't get anything but they still split the bill 4 ways. That person is paying for other people.

Except this time you're splitting the bill with millions of people. Let's try to keep it in perspective here buddy.

I didn't say I was the only one paying for your refund.

And I thank you immensely for your $0.000000000000001 that went towards my refund. :p

Now go create a new thread about how much you hate welfare, social security, etc.

I think the whole idea is going to be an epic fail.
It does help because Americans will reliably build back up their debt throughout the rest of the year. Economists believe this isn't the best type of stimulus; studies show extended unemployment benefits and food stamps are usually injected into the economy quickly.

I just got a wonderful little notice in the mail this weekend. My property taxes went up almost 25% for the year and nearly all of our rebate will go right back to taxes.

YAY!

Ouch. Good news is your property isn't affected downward like most other areas. Make lemonade out of lemons.

Either that or your county appraiser is on crack, dispute it.

Property values have stayed pretty stale here in central IL. A few of the higher priced newer homes have dropped a bit in value, most of the more value oriented and established areas have maintained value the last two years.

Our county administration just passed 12% pay raises for all administrative staff...coincidentally about 75% of my increase went to the county. The rest went to the school district and a little bit to the library. My grandparents went up over $1500.

Most of it will probably go to savings. I'll be taking a GRE course this summer that will be draining a lot of my savings so this will help add to it.
