As a veteran ebay seller (6000+ feedback!), youre pretty much hosed unless this guy has a reputation for filing claims. For "not as described" it doesnt matter if you video taped it or had delivery confirmation, he will mail back the item and paypal will take the money out of your account. If he's a noted scammer, paypal will refund him once the item is returned. Also you may be stuck paying the return shipping fee for a "not as described" case.

If you wind up getting one back, make sure it's the same one you shipped out. I can't see him going through the trouble of the whole ordeal and only breaking even in the end.

I stopped selling on ebay for this very reason. I'd rather toss stuff in the trash or give it away than let some scammer win. I have sold items, gotten back completely different things in return and still lost the case after providing photos to ebay/paypal. They simply do not care about sellers no matter how much "evidence" you provide to them.

tell him something like you'll be near him in a couple days and you would like to come by in person to take a look at the item and pick it up. if he's pulling something shady, you might scare him straight.

I've had a little bit of luck doing something similar to get someone to pay for something they bought from me...

Yes, the pictures are in the auction and hosted on Photobucket showing the item not broken. I used to take pictures of the item in the box too but I didn't do that this time. I did not purchase insurance and wouldn't that be up to the buyer? Meanwhile my paypal account shows a negative 155 dollars. So much bull shit. The guy clearly broke it and I refuse to issue a refund. I just bought a digital camera and will for now on when selling on Ebay to take a video of the item.

Per Ebay it is the seller's responsibility to get the item to the buyer. That includes paying for insurance.

Your allowed to earn income up to a certain extent, only problem is that after a percentage is met the SSI (or part of it) can become taxable..

Where are you? Around here earned income after a certain amount (low) does lower your SSI amount. Wish I didn't know that.

Why is leaving feedback such a big deal and why do people do it? I mean, buy your item, deal with the buyer/seller and that's it. Some of these sellers have tons of feedback. Does it really mean anything?

People are so scared of receiving negative feedback while others are so eager to post feedback. I guess reputation means a lot - even though it may not apply in your case when you're buying/selling the item. It's just like real life. A person's reputation is what he used to be or has done but that can change any moment.

I believe that the issue is more that he's getting hosed on the money.

I've had the same thing happen to me. Sell motherboard. Sell CPU. Sell memory. Guy who buys motherboard says it doesn't work. Don't know if he toasted it. I don't have the CPU or memory that fits into it, so it's useless to me and I can't test it. I have to give a refund.

eBay sucks for the seller. Can't even warn others not to sell to bad people because there's no feedback from the seller other than positive.

How do you sell things like game keys or software keys on eBay if those are one time use items?

I'll tell the story of why I stopped selling on eBay.

I sold something for about $300. The buyer paid me via Paypal. I transferred the money out of Paypal and into my checking account. I shipped the item via UPS. About two weeks later, the buyer leaves me positive feedback on eBay. Another few weeks and the buyer files a Paypal claim saying he never got the item. I responded to Paypal by showing the tracking information showing the weight of the item. I also mentioned the positive feedback on eBay. The buyer countered saying that he got a box full of newspapers and that he left feedback before opening the box. Paypal sided with the buyer and withdrew $300 from my checking account to give back to the guy. Pure bullshit.

SSI: Social Security Supplemental Income. You have to go the the Social Security office with your agent or lawyer to apply with a case file.
