I have a question, if someone reports that what they bought was broken, do they need to send it back to the seller to get the money back?

Couldn't you just ask the guy to send the product back to you?

That's typically what happens, but if Ebay favors the buyer in my case they may issue a full refund before I get my TrackIR back.

I'm about to sell a ton of stuff on eBay, that sounds scary. Is there anything sellers can do to protect themselves?

I'm selling items worth $1k+ each.

Maybe videotape in HD your packing process. That includes weighing and close up of the tracking number on label to show it matches that on Ebay and of course show that it is dropped off at the proper shipping facility. It goes without saying that insurance is an absolute must.

I thought about this but I wonder if eBay would consider this evidence in the case of a claim. I would hope.

Not really.

Doesn't help. I've provided pictures of the items packed and still lost cases. I've taken items to a 3rd party for verification and packing (UPS Store) and I still lost the case.

They do not. Honestly, it's about hit or miss as to what they will accept. I've seen instances where people have edited threads or pages after a sale was complete and they still won the case even though it's obvious what was done.

SSI is administered state-by-state.

We might be talking about different programs, my wife gets SSI disability, 65% of it was taxable for last year because we file as a couple and the amount of $$ I made last year.

I know some people seem to have issues with selling on eBay.

Me? Never a problem where I have had someone filing a claim against me.

I have been selling since 1998 and the buyers have been tremendous. I have even shipped to places outside of the US on occasion, and again, all my experiences have been great.

I know some like to bitch about eBay but I am just the opposite. There is no other marketplace website where can I reach as many people and sell as fast, as with eBay. It's my place to sell.

If you don't have pictures or insurance, you're screwed. This is one of the reasons I prefer craigslist.

As if craigslist is any better...it's just dealing with idiots on the phone/texting and in person instead. And then they don't show up anyways 80% of the time.

Pretty much, but i'd rather deal with craigslist morons over ebay trolls and scammers.

That doesn't make sense because I never pay taxes on my SSI.

Exactly the same for me. Member since 1998, very positive experiences. I've also had great luck with Craigslist, but nothing beats the exposure you get with eBay.

Ok, just an update. Iasked the buyer to return the Track IR for a full refund that way I can resell it without be screwed. I have a felling this asshole broke my Track clip pro though which means that I won't be able to sell that part of it, by hopefully the damn thing still works and I can resell it. I just don't want to get screwed out of 115 with shipping.

So far the asshole hasn't even made an attempt to contact me and if this continues I think Ebay may release the 115 dollar hold on me in Paypal. NEVER had this problem before and I sold over 2 grand in stuff on eBay thus far.

I would say eBay just based on the protection from Paypal.

I seem to remember from a thread here that sellers on Amazon have little or no protection when using Amazon payment.

It is supposedly easier for a buyer to file a chargeback on Amazon.

Read the parts under:

Fraud, Disputes, Chargebacks, and Protection

https://payments.amazon.com/sdui/sdui/about?nodeId=73479#fdcp_how

Paypal's protections are a joke as far as I can tell. You can follow all their guidelines and still lose a claim to a fraudulent buyer.

I refuse to sell through eBay any more. As I've stated above, I've sold items "as-is", "Broken" with other various descriptions and pictures clearly showing what they were getting. In the end, they still file a claim and win every time.

I've also sold higher end PC parts on there, only to have completely different items returned and paypal/ebay always sides with the buyer. I started having a 3rd party (UPS Store, Fedex Kinkos, etc) pack and verify the items thinking that would help in the event of this happening again but nope. They still sided with the buyer and I lost even after providing them documentation from the 3rd party shipper that items returned did not match what was shipped.

Most of the people I've spoken to at my local UPS Store and Fedex Kinkos say this happens all the time. Their shipping sales are way down because many sellers have stopped selling on ebay due to the high rate of theft/scam.

Some people seem to like selling on ebay, until that one time you really get taken. After that, most just swear them off and deal with craigslist morons.

Well, I offered the guy a full refund which means he needs to ship my Track IR back to me and he isn't responding. WTF asshole! Is he trying to take the money and run or what? I think if he doesn't respond EBastard will be in my favor.

Now all we need is a parody thread about some schmuck who sold some damaged motherboards as new in order to scam people for the funds to buy a TrackIR and then one of the people that had bought a motherboards called the dude out so he had to scam the seller of the TrackIR...

Did you learn a lesson OP? Always insure your shit, even if it's $30! At least you'd have some recourse with USPS to get that money back.
