I had to wait 3 weeks to get my money from Paypal just recently. Sold an old 939 mobo. The winning bidder was in Puerto Rico even though I said no shipping outside CONUS. Sent it to Florida to another address she gave me. Sent an email asking if everything was okay, never heard back. I got the money, no feedback, but oh well. Fees were $7.33 and $2.66 from Paypal.

lets hope google will launch something and destroy ebay!

People have been waiting for that for a long time now and it doesn't seem to be on Google's radar. They certainly have the resources to make it happen and if they have not done it already I'm not going to be holding my breath waiting for it. Ebay can continue to screw people because they don't have a serious competitor.

I'm not sure what the shafting is here... I don't know about the other categories, but I sold clothing for a few years on there and the final value fee was 12%. I know it was less for other categories, but it couldn't have been much less than 10% if at all. Between ebay and paypal fees I calculated 15 to 17% fees and I don't think that that has changed.

I was doing this between 2004 and 2010 so it's been a couple years.

I used to sell quite a few things on Ebay but the ever-rising (ridiculous) amount of fee (Ebay + Paypal) has slowly decreased the frequency. This is not going to help the case either.

Ebay has been pretty stupid for some years. Most of the things I look for on ebay I end up buying elsewhere for less. I regularly see "buy it now" prices that are full retail. Amazon is generally cheaper, with free shipping.

I'd rather throw my unused stuff in the trash than sell on eBay, CL or damn near anywhere anymore.

Pretty much this. If I can make a profit from it then I will try to sell it, otherwise it goes in the trash. It's just not worth the time and effort a lot of the time.

This.

If anyone wants it feel free to ask.

I don't even try to make anything on stuff anymore. After you lose out on one deal, it sours you for the rest and you'll never come out ahead. I've been giving a LOT of stuff away lately and rarely do I sell. Id I do sell, it's only to a few people that I know on various forums and i've dealt with a lot in the past.

So to sum up the thread, people who sell designer clothes on Ebay are happy, and everybody else pretty much hates it?

Dont you guys have Kijiji down there in the US? i cant even remember the last time i used ebay, has to be over 5 years ago.

Those assholes will never see another cent from me after paypal totally fucked me on a non-delivered item a few years back.

I used to sell things on ebay every so often, but with all the crazy scamming and fees and stuff it just isn't worth it. If I just want to sell something I'll put it on CL. Ebay is dead as far as selling stuff for me.

Even as a buyer, I've found that most things can be purchased somewhere else from a reliable vendor for the same price (or better) than on ebay, I don't even bother looking on ebay when purchasing anymore.

Shrug, maybe it's just me.

I haven't touched Ebay ever since I discovered the wonders of Chinese e-commerce sites.

Not from a seller POV though.

OP, I feel your frustration. I stopped selling on ebay 8 years ago. I tend to buy 6-10 things there per year ON MY TERMS. I usually only go with BIN with free shipping and the savings has to be at least 40% off retail.

Another bad move by the bay ...

If you don't have a store, you will be paying a flat 10% final value fee on all of your auctions. ugh. why do they keep trying to squeeze regular people who just want to sell their unwanted shit?

They aren't interested in those sellers and wouldn't care if they all went away. They realized there isn't enough money to be made from people like you and me who just want to sell the occasional item. They are trying to become another Amazon and to do that they need stores and sellers who will do volume business. So that's why the rates are higher on non-store sellers.

Ebay will never be taken as seriously as Amazon. Their reputation along with paypal is crap to one too many people in this fast moving internet age.

I'd sooner give Chinese auction sites a chance over ebay if they had more stock and inventory in the US so merchandise can be shipper quicker. They can't be any worse than ebay and their associated shenanigans.

People still use eBay?

You know the answer yet your point is taken ... it still has its uses when it suits me. The last item that the wife sold there sold for much less than she thought it would be worth and she was shocked at how much ebay/PP took in fees.

No more selling ...

No. People who sell diesel jeans that no longer fit them and wife's one too many coach purses still get screwed.

These are the current final value fees on clothing:
Clothing, Shoes and Accessories
$0.50
10% of the total amount of the sale
$5 for the first $50
+
8% of the remaining balance up to $1,000
$81 for the first $1,000
+
2% of the remaining balance over $1,000

After the new changes it will be 10% across the board.

i just tried looking at ebid , which according to some is the "next big thing" to replace ebay. but from the looks of it, traffic is pretty slow and you cant buy much of anything on there. where else can i sell an ancient voodoo 3 2000 i found for $40 other than on ebay??
