I checked out a seller's multiple purchase policy for DVD's and saw I could get cheap shipping if I won several of his auctions. He had many many DVD auctions going and I found and won 8 DVD's that I wanted. He'd said he took Paypal (middle of each listing) but at the bottom he had a line saying he wouldn't take Paypal for some weird sounding reason (I only figured that out after the auctions were over), so I sent him a personal check. That slowed things down, but I finally got the box.
These appear to be all Blockbuster sell-offs. A few of the DVD's are OK, but there are some problems:
3 of them have a strange and completely (!) pervasive scratch pattern. The pattern goes from the center to the outside, almost perpendicular, but not quite. The effect is somewhat spiral. One of the DVD's will not play in any player I have. One will not play in my computer's DVD drive but will play with occasional momentary freezes and sound dropouts in my standalone DVD player. Of course, that's very annoying. Another of these scratched disks seemed to play OK in both my computer's DVD drive and my standalone player. So, of the 3 scratched disks, one won't play, one plays crappy, the other seems to play.
On top of that, 2 of the DVD's were advertised as "new" and are decidedly not new - they are very obviously used. I actually bought them with the idea that I would resell them on eBay as new, so I'm put out.
All of these were represented as either new or "The case and the disc are in mint condition." In every case, the case was decidedly NOT in mint condition - they have stickers that were only partially removed, so that you couldn't read the sticker, but you can't read what is beneath the sticker on the case. I think these were Blockbuster stickers.
The seller in his listings says that if you have any issues with the merchandise, you should email him and he will provide his telephone number so you can discuss your dissatisfaction before you leave him negative feedback. I emailed him explaining things in detail and asking him what we can do, and got no response. So a week later I emailed him again asking him what he will do. That was 12 days ago and I still have gotten no response.
What are my options? Obviously, I can just dump on him and leave negative feedback, potentially for every one of these 8 DVD's, because not one measures up to his assurances for quality. However, I think I can get him to do something if I'm persistent and patient. Can I get his phone number from eBay?
