call paypal and ask them what will happen if he files a dispute.

do you have proof that it was delivered?

if paypal says your in the clear then reply to the buyer in the kindest tone possible and explain that it was tested before shipping and that there are no returns as listed in the ad.

Would this work?
but i'll call paypal first; again im going to fight this

Offer the dude 20 bucks back for the Broken CPU fan if that's what the issue is. It should more than cover the replacement cost and the 20 minutes it would take to replace it.

You are probably hosed.
Either it got there damaged, was the package damaged when he got it.
He swapped out a bad mobo he had and now has your working mobo.

With his feedback, it's likely the former.

he said the error was
02FA Main fan Error

googled it; seems like a fan issue, told him I would refund him 20 dollars to go out and buy a cpu fan.

Any suggestions. What would you guys do in this situation?

As I said, we are full service Computer repair facility specialized in laptop repairs. I knew that what that error means?.
My certified tech have already installed NEW CPU fan, but still same error means it needs a NEW MOTHERBOARD.

this was his reply

this is complete bullshit, i used this laptop for 5 years and never had an issue with it.

He escalated to a dispute. Expected 100 dollars in return and I think he wanted to keep the laptop too. Well i obviously said no and will fight this to the ground, even to destroy his perfect 100% feedback

my reply
The laptop was working fine for the past 4 years I had owned it. It was working fine when I sent the item; and when they received the laptop they said it was non-working. They are a computer repair center, they could have damaged the computer from installing the new hard drive or they could have used my laptop as parts, I dont know, but what I do know is that laptop was working when I sent it; the pictures on ebay are the pictures of the laptop working the day I put it on ebay. I posted this issue on a forum and the forum community also believes they may have swapped out some parts. This computer was working when I sent it out, I described everything in my ebay ad down to little specifics and made it clear that I do not accept returns. I even shipped the Item ups so the buyer could receive the item much faster than what I originally had posted in the add (parcel post). I suggested to the seller that he should file a dispute with UPS because UPS insures items up to 100 dollars if the seller believes this is UPS' fault. I hope this gets resolved for both the seller and I.

I have a hard time believing that even damage during shipping could cause a fan error.

I would ask for a picture of the screen on the laptop showing the error. But it seems it would be too late, paypal rape is imminent. Maybe you can convince paypal to take your side since the buyer tampered with it internally.

shouldn't this part of his ad be /thread?

"I will not provide any support for this computer, sale is final."

It should be, but in ebay/paypal world it doesn't mean squat. To top it off, they have the OP by the nuts since paypal also has the funds on hold so he can't even access it.

not with paypal.

he coulda put in his ad "item doesnt work... you're getting a broken laptop" ... and paypal would still side with the buyer if they complain it doesnt work.

I think if I sell a used laptop after hearing this I'm gonna use one of those cash for laptops services.
