I just got back from vacation and my amps got ripped out of my truck:( anyway I go to replace them from ebay and not one single private party seller on the first three pages in the caraudio/amplifier section. All it is is dealers...No bidding...no negotiation... high prices...just this stupid "buy it now" feature. Looks like ebay has become pricewatch/pricegrabber with a fee.

I like Buy It Now actually. Well, maybe not from retailers so much, but it's useful for stuff from regular people.

When I sell, I tend to place prices fairly low and a lot lower than my BIN price. My BIN Price is usually a dollar or two above going rate.

True but then ebay is not much of a "auction" site anymore. I used to get killer deals and mom and pop could still sell thier wares instead of wading though a morass of dealer products. Again Pricewatch is great if you want dealers IMO has no place on ebay. But then they have to pay the bills somehow:) Reason #457 who ebay sucks:D

you don't *have* to buy it if it's too expensive

buy it now helped me to sell a dell keyboard in less than a day, it's a pretty cool feature imo.

That is correct. Might as well jouney over to pricegrabber, at least they have a superior search engine and don't call themselves an "auction" site.

BTW- this was just the first random page under "car audio" section. I kept clicking additional pages and it's all the same.

I don't see whats so bad about it. You can just go to the "auctions" tab instead of the "all items" tab..................

Umm, it's because you're in the "store" section of eBay, or something.

Notice the "listing.ebay.com" instead of "search.ebay.com"

most of those BIN high-price listers are illegitimate fly-by night sellers that don't stick around long enuff to pay the listing and auction value fees (their accounts get suspended after 1 month). however ebay still profits indirectly from paypal fees, so they dont work very hard to stop it, even when its obvious

however i once got them to cancel the account of a seller who listed thousands of dollar worth of merchandise with only 1 feedback; that single feedback was for "harry potter book" and ended 17 seconds after it was listed, but here's the ringer: auction said money orders only, feedback was left on same day proving its the same person, because you cant pay via money order and receive it same day.

that was back when ebay actually had CSRs

The Internet was great before every idiot and his brother used it.

Now it's just a ton of people trying to find a way to make money off it. Sure, I like some of the things you can use the Internet for now that you never could before... like buying stuff. But then I see another pop-up ad or another banner ad or the sorry state of eBay, and I want the non-commercialized days back.

What happened with Ebay is that it caught on....

People were getting deals, so the people/stores that were selling stuff noticed that a lot of people were buying stuff there so they jumped in.

I think it has to do with the type of items your interested in. I don't find this problem looking for random stuff.

So go out to a retail store and buy the amp if you don't like the buy it now feature. I still think it's a lot cheaper than paying close to retail, plus many of the auctions end up a few dollars cheaper than than the buy it now price anyways.

I think the Buy It Now feature is good especially if you expect bidding to exceed the price.

I do agree that stores are way to prevalent on Ebay. They need introduce a feature to distinguish low quantity and high quantity sellers to reduce this situation you are encountering.

I also like the Buy It Now feature. I usually go to Ebay for oddball type items that I can't find other places. For me, the buy it now feature saves a lot of time, by not having to waiting for an auction to end.
