Ebay gruntles.... opinons?

Hey all,

I sold this auction on ebay. READ the description carefully.... I meant it to say that I knew NOTHING about this laptop.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6835610382

The guy who bought it now wants a full refund because he believes I falsely advertised this as a 1 ghz machine. If you look at the listing, I chose 1 mhz because I did not KNOW the processor speed (if you notice, it doesn't say it in the description because I pulled this laptop out of a closet and knew NOTHING about it).

Anyway, he wants a full refund and "understands the misunderstanding but still believes I mis-advertised it".

What do you all think? Should I give him a full refund and resell it? The processor speed apparently is 700 mhz, not 1 ghz. I chose 1 mhz because ebay didn't let me choose anything else, so I chose the LOWEST option.

Opinons?

Also you have buyer protection enabled- which means you can refund and make him happy, or he'll just file a pp complaint and get it reversed anyway, then leave you a neg. That paypal protection has you by the balls.

See if you can refund $25 back, if it makes him happy.

Don't refund. You clearly stated it was for parts. AND the 1mhz vs. 1ghz was his fault. If he thought that YOU had mis-typed mhz insted of ghz he should have e-mailed you.

I say refund not because I think the guy deserves it, it does sound like he's a whiner. I do know from experience if he contests this via paypal it's going to be resolved in his favor, most likely.

You've also got 100% feedback- he's going to be your first neg.

"All I can guarantee is that this machine is not missing any parts other than the hard drive (possibly), the CD-ROM bay item, and memory."

"This is a use at your own risk kinda thing."

I think that basically sums up everything. Basically the buyer wrongly made assumptions. Although you should have stated your reason why you selected 1 Mhz in your auction but still you guaranteed it wasn't missing any parts other than the aforementioned. Case closed.

Sorry dude, but it seems as you've discovered one of the bazillions of ways ebay is not user-friendly. I would say you owe the refund, because even though you did not know the CPU speed, you didn't say so in the description. There's nothing in your words that suggests it's not a 1GHz machine. Just because you know that ebay won't let you choose less than 1GHz, doesn't mean your bidders know that.

I see also that you have positive feedback... 100%. If you don't give him a refund I promise you will lose that. If you work with him, you can maybe even get him to leave a positive along with the resolution. After all, the responsibility for the error IS yours even if eBay seems to have "helped".

The machine is listed as 1mhz, not 1ghz.

It says it's a 1MHz machine...that's not even close to a 1GHz machine. There is nothing in his description that suggests that it is a 1GHz machine.

What do you guys think the chances are that this guy tried putting ram in and the computer doesn't work, so he is returning it?

It's irrelavent, he's complaining so you need to determine the best response.

Both the buyer and seller have flawless feedbacks with the buyer having more feedbacks. I bet both will hesitate to leave negative feedback unless they do it literally the last minute before they aren't allowed to leave any feedback for the transaction.

Well, then from the sounds of things the seller has to consider tarnishing his perfect feedback.

Personally I decided that letting off idiots on ebay with positive feedback wasn't worth it, so I left negitive. Got some negitive in return, but don't regret it.

I think I'll offer him $40 via paypal. I've ALREADY sent him $10 shipping refund because the package was lost.... so he will get a total of $50 from me refund.
