Sorry, hit enter too soon.

So anyway, I sold a WoW account, 60 NE hunter on Gorgonash more than a month ago. The buyer was satisfied with the account and I received payment and withdrew it to my account.

So today 8 Jul, more than a month after I sold him the account I receive a email from paypal stating that I had a chargeback. The buyer said it was unauthorized use of a card.

However, prior to my selling of the account he had messaged me on MSN to discuss payment. I then insisted on him using ebay as I wanted seller protection. So he clearly knew he was buying the account.

He agreed and bid and won the account. He then used paypal to pay for the account and I logged every single word of this convo down, such as the secret word that i sent him, which email i should send the details to etc.

He even left positive feedback about the great account.

Now today when I message him back, he says he doesnt know what I'm talking about, and that he doesnt use paypal at all. But I have logged his exact words and when i mentioned sending him the chatlog so that he could see it himself, he stopped responding altogether.

What should I do? My paypal account is linked to a debit card, but I have read too many paypalsucks.com horror stories that I ran out of the house to the nearest ATM in a panic when i saw that email and withdrew everything. so now my debit card account has $0 in it.

Can my bank still charge me? I intend to fight this chargeback with everything that I have, how much faith should I have in PP?

Thanks in advance for your advice

you are screwed.

ppl get scammed like this all the time selling virtual "property." esp for mmorpg stuff.
paypal will not do you any good since they have a strict policy on virtual goods.

do you have any emails or transcripts of your conversations with him? If so, send them to PayPal immediately.

If your PayPal account is zero balance, then call your bank immediately and tell them that you will NOT allow any withdrawals from PayPal.

Thanks, I intend to cancel my debit card account tomorrow with the bank, would that help?

Edit for the poster above me, my paypal account is frozen. Lucky I had nothing in it, also the balance is now -207.43.

Worst case scenario, keep the account at zero and call the local police to file a false claim report if the bank overdrafts your account.

Jeebus people, take off your tinfoil hats.

PayPal can't debit your checking account without your authorization.

It will just send your PayPal balance into the negatives.

I guess the guy did this before and got away with it. Lucky for you, you log everything. Good luck.

Go to the bank and cancel your account right now. Then open a new one at another bank and deposit all of your money.

Yeah, PayPal is just an in between, if your account is in the negatives, you can just close it, correct?

Yeah, but you still technically owe them that money.

They did the same frickin thing to me last month. It was a total headache, paypal's customer service is useless so don't bother calling.

Paypal will automatically refund him a portion of the final cost. You will long into your account and find that your account is frozen because of the charge back. You will have a negative balance. In order to unfreeze your account you will have to add funds through the bank account to give you positive funds. Once you have a positive balance, you will have to manually give a refund for the remaining amount. This whole process takes about 3.5 weeks before you account will be unfrozen.

You could just close your bank account and not use paypal anymore, just note that they will refer you to a collection agency and if you try opening another paypal account it will quickly be frozen as well.

PayPal is useless, if you don't have a DC number that shows they recieved the item, then you are automatically guilty. Reciepts, emails, im logs mean jack chit to them.

You can't close your PayPal account if your balance is less than zero, or if they have your account limited.

Please search this forum for "PayPal"...all your questions have been asked and answered.

You will also find a lot of warnings about when and if you should you use PayPal at all.

People get chargebacks through PayPal all the time because buyers know the sellers can do nothing about it...and PayPal doesn't lift a finger to help.
