Caring about the earth is not a liberal idea but silly assed things like sitting in the dark for an hour do not demonstrate your "caring for the earth". Using energy is not a bad thing or a good thing, and I do not feel the least bit guilty about the energy I use to light my house or power my electronics. I will be celebrating the huge advancement our species has made over the last century by turning on all my lights and electronics during earth hour as well. It is a hell of a lot better than lighting candles, taking a dump outside in a privy, and taking an hour to go 5 miles on the back of a horse when I want to get to work which is how most people got along in 1909.

I'll just pull the breaker since it takes to long to wait for everything to turn off. The SAN is known for taking about a day to recover from a bad shut down.

In the same way I stand and face the flag when the national anthem is played, I will be participating in Earth Hour. It's symbolic and something I stand for... not sure when caring about the Earth became a "liberal" idea. Some of you people with entitlement issues really scare the piss out of me.

Assuming all the pro-save-the-Earth fanatics are serious, I think we can assume they have CFL's. So, if they turn off 10 lights for an hour, that saves.... 140 watt-hours. Roughly 1 cent worth of electric. They'd save more energy by skipping the blow dryer in the morning.

No, that concept is flawed because one will eventually need gas on Wednesday and spend the same amount.
However if you don't light your house on Tuesday, you can't account for Tuesday's unused electricity later on. It is the equivalent of not driving on Tuesday as opposed to not filling up.

How many people are going to stay up later to watch the movies they TIVO'd during that hour? 😛

If they did not do this at night, I would turn off my lights but it kinda sucks to be on the pc in pitch dark. 😛 I have a CCFL so I'm covered. I just closed the lights I"m not using like the living room lights, outside lights etc.
