Note that this is a babelfish translation from a french site.
Looks like MP3 encoding gets about a 25% boost. A lot of stuff is minimal gain. Some no gain.

What do you think?

Budman, Good find. I searched and couldn't find anything.

I especially got a kick out of page 8.

INTEL Pentium 4 3.06 Ghz HyperThreading
By Samuel D./Franck D. - 14/11/2002
Synopsis:
Select a page: Introduction Configuration of test The core P4 with the magnifying glass Hyperthreading: Explanations Benchmarks: non-SMT Benchmarks: SMT Benchmarks: Plays Compatibility Hardware/Software Overclocking Conclusion

Compatibility Hardware/Software

To function correctly, Hyperthreading technology requires, according to INTEL, the following elements:

Given rhythm Pentium 4 with 3.06 Ghz or +
Chipset INTEL supporting Hyperthreading
A BIOS supporting Hyperthreading
An operating system which include optimizations for the HT
Currently, the only OS including of optimizations for Hyperthreading is Windows XP. That it is in Home version or Pro, this operating system is able to benefit the best from the SMT. Etrangement, <<all the versions of Windows 2000 belong to the group " not recommended " (just like Windows Millenium or 98) and INTEL even suggests decontaminating Hyperthreading on these systems.>>

decontaminating? LOL

Were there any negative impacts with HT in the P4? The Xeon has shown some negative improvements. Maybe Intel ironed them out.

So HT sorta makes the P4 3.06 Ghz seem like two processors doing the work to like create better mult. tasking ?

I think it isn't quite like two 1.5GHz processors but more like a bypass for work when there is a logjam.
