Will Black Friday lose some of its impact as retailers try new tactics to get the jump on holiday season sales?

Black Friday 2009 Pre-Sales Today: JCPenney, Sears, Target, and Wal-Mart

The idea of getting yourself a bargain just before Christmas is a wonderful thought, but if you had to queue up for hours to get it, then you would go off that idea quickly. This is the dilemma that we face each year and now face the same with Black Friday 2009.

There is a solution to this though and a number of stores have been showing us the way. Stores such as JCPenney, Sears, Target, and Wal-Mart have all started Black Friday 2009 Pre-Sales today, Saturday November 7, 2009. These stores hope that these early sales will be able to inject some much needed profits in ailing sales.

We had assumed that the holiday shopping season would start on November 27, 2009, which is Black Friday, but we only had to look at last year to see that something like this was done before. Best Buy and Wal-Mart called it their Black Friday loss-leaders.

There are so many other deals to be had before Black Friday, PC World informs us that Kmart begun its “Better than Black Friday” yesterday, Friday November 6, 2009. They will continue this sale each Friday until November 20.

My sister bought a 58" Panasonic Viera 1080P THX-Certified Plasma last week in Sears for $749. I wanted one so bad, but they had no more in stock.

These pre-black friday deals are nice.

I suspect that because of the economy, there is limited discretionary income out there, and retailers are trying to lock in their share as quickly as possible.

Good in that you might not have to deal with Black Friday crowds until main stream media starts carrying the story broadly (if they do at all).

I think they're trying to avoid the rabid mobs they've been getting lately on Black Friday.

Black Friday lost its impact 10 years ago, or more.
It was a "special" day manufactured by the corporations and for consumers it was a flop. The sales were always a joke, and people would mass in the stores like ants on an orange slice, just so they could fight each other over the last crumb. Every year it seems to have slowed down a bit as Americans finally uplplug their heads from their butts and realize how big a scam it was.
It was ridiculous and if people have stopped doing it entirely I am so damn grateful I'll give free slow-neck to the poster after me.

I've been watching every day for good deals and have yet to find even one. Heck, I have a LONG list of items that I have a $4,000 budget for, have the cash in-hand and still can't find a deal.

I would definitely have jumped on the Viera deal as a new TV is on the list ... as well as a bed, PS3, etc.

I've never really understood Black Friday... with the exception of one or two limited quantity deals that end up getting sold out within seconds of stores opening and are only really there to generate traffic, none of the B&M deals seem much different than what you could get online any other day of the year.

Amazon had a Xbox 360 for $100 and so does Walmart.

I've never actually gone to a store on black friday, I always just get the stuff I want online when I see a good deal.

Black Friday is great for certain stuff like DVDs that they have a ton of. Going for big ticket items are a waste of time unless your a college student or something and you find some buddies to camp outside of Best Buy with.

Amazon had some pretty good deals a few days around Black Friday so I'm hoping they do similar stuff again this year.

Regardless of sales, Black Friday this year will be awesome because it's my birthday.
