These EA execs need gold shower curtains just like other executives at other companies. How are they ever supposed to justify $10 million bonuses if they can't sell a 5 year old game for full price?

Have a heart people.

Clearly you don't even bother to pay attention to the price of boxed games, with EA boxed games typically (in the UK especially) dropping massively in price.
Digital distribution is a joke when boxed copies can be found for cheaper or the same price as ON SALE digital copies of games.

Try and find a 12 month old EA game that still sells for full price on something like Amazon.
I see BF3 and ME3 both $35 each boxed.

Digital prices are a joke and have managed to remain a joke for the last 8 or so years (since Steam became required for HL2).

Having had to deal with EA "customer support", I already had no intention of ever buying anything on Origin again anyway, they want to chase away even more customers, more power to them.

And, this should be no surprise to any of us:

One criticism some have labelled at Steam is that its heavy discounts damage video game brands because gamers hold off on buying new releases at launch in anticipation of a future sale.
DeMartini agreed with this position: "What Steam does might be teaching the customer, 'I might not want it in the first month, but if I look at it in four or five months, I'll get one of those weekend sales and I'll buy it at that time at 75 per cent off.'

Nah--of course, DeMartini--you are absolutely right! It is certainly because we expect a fire sale one month out that we wait to purchase your game! Please never consider the piddly excuse of how you release buggy, incomplete messes of games that you will only send out in pieces, month by month.

nah, that can't be the fucking reason we stop buying games at release. NO FUCKING WAY!

I don't have an infinite amount of money to spend, if there weren't steam sales to suck it out of me bit by bit, I probably wouldn't even spend the maximum amount that I'm able to.

Restated: We would rather not compete on price, so we are going to try to create a ecosystem that does not allow competition on price.

I pretty much told her she's not allowed to do anything like that again because she doesn't understand that prices aren't what YOU think they are worth, but what people are willing to pay and if you really want to move product, you have to be willing to adjust.

LOL

Man that EA clown comes across as an obnoxious prick. Especially in an economy where he should be thankful for every discretionary $ he can scrounge from the consumer.

Plus I don't get it - I can buy Crysis Maximum Edition from Amazon for a current sale price of $8.99. That's like 70% off. What's he even talking about?

Finally someone does it right. Steam and their stupid sales just serve to cheapen games. They just enable all these poor people to buy games when they should be looking for a job.

I hope Valve goes out of business and Origin emerges as the digital gaming platform of choice.

Is this going to turn into Amazon Vs Apple book price war? I seriously hope it doesn't turn out that way.

Sheep for yourself. I'm still waiting for Steam to get Mass Effect 3, and I'll just keep buying other games from Steam while I wait.

Well, I did want this game. Been waiting for it for uh... several years.
I guess EA thinks getting zero sales is better than getting $40 for it.
Not gonna bite.

EDIT: LMAO! wow... just wow.
Double edit: Ok, this is the deluxe version. Regular is $59 just realized. Still, I'm done paying $60 on games. I've wasted too much money on shit this year.

That EA guy sounds as if he thinks sales are a new thing.

Next week he will be saying that Boxing Day cheapens Xmas Day because everyone waits for the sales.

Yeah, so about those "games" thingies you're so proud of, EA ... Not going to buy your shit, ever. Not one product, i doesn't mater if you hire Team Ico or whatever, you're not seeing a penny of my money from now until the end of time. Last god damn straw.

If the game is good I dont really care who makes or publishes it. I don't put politics between myself and a good game. Why deny myself the ability to play ME3 which was pretty good IMO or Bf3 just because of some personal grudge against EA? I don't get it.

As long as I can play the games I want to play I am happy. Way too much nerd rage these days.

I'm not you. I can't support shitty corporations. That would put a nagging sensation in the back of my skull that I wouldn't easily shake off. Also, I'm not putting game-breaking spyware on my rig.

Still don't own BF3 or ME3. Still don't plan to either unless they come without the Origin requirement.

I'm not against using Origin for EA games, but I'm only going to buy them at a great price. I paid no more than $5 each for the first two Mass Effect games and I'll be waiting as long as necessary to get the third one at that price as well.
