wow that is pretty surprising for the ea sports games. but i guess that confirms that on the BF4 announcement when they said "next gen consoles" that they did not mean wii-u in that "next gen" list.

Exactly what I've (and many others) have said. Wii U is a last gen console that came six years late.

That's what happens when you make a console that is, not easy to develop for third parties, not really powerful enough to get next gen (PS4/X3) ports, and also sells like crap, publishers stop caring about your console.

See if you can spot the pattern:

1) Activision sold 0.72 million units of Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified on the Vita and 0.18 million units of Call of Duty: Black Ops II on the Wii U.
2) Ubisoft sold 0.76 million units of Assassin's Creed III: Liberation on the Vita and 0.14 units of Assassin's Creed III on the Wii U.
3) EA sold 0.24 million units of Madden NFL 13 on the Vita but 0.03 million units on the Wii U.
4) EA sold 0.21 million units of FIFA Soccer 13 on the Vita but 0.07 million units on on the Wii U.

People are going to say "But the Vita came out in February and the Wii U came out in November!" So? That really means people were previously satisfied with the consoles they already owned that they didn't want to wait for a "better" version. If I told you that GTA V was being released on the PS4 in January with better graphics, would you still go buy the game for PS3/360 in September if you knew you were getting a PS4? Or heck, how many people would end up buying it twice? You know a decent chunk of people who bought Madden on the Vita probably also own it on their PS3/360 as well too.

Pretty much.

Nintendo also named and marketed their console in a way that normal consumers had no idea that it's actually a new console.

Interesting historical note:

EA also refused to release any games for the Dreamcast during its life, even when it was selling excellently.

And just as back then, bigger consoles loomed large on the horizon. And we all know how that turned out for Sega.

This will be interesting.

ok last Week EA / DICE siad the Frostbite 3 engine was not possiable on Wii U and that FB2 engine was tested but failed beyond anything or so they siad but we have Crysis 3 running fully on Wii U before it was finished and EA canned a supior to other console systems version. then just this week EA came out and annouced with DICE Frosbite will work on Mobile phones and Tablets just as FS3 engine will work on PS360

So they are purposly shutting out the Wii U cause they are mad That Nintendo turned them down during the Wii U development on having ther Orgin software as part of the Wii Us online system and the big N siad NO

Frostbite 3 and Frostbite Go are not the same thing.

Or they are shutting the Wii U out because there games don't sell on the system and it isn't worth the money they spend developing games.

/looks at EAs mainstream franchises
/not caring

I think the world will get by with only 9 versions of Battlefield and 1 less version of Madden...

Think of the internet bandwidth saved with one less console downloading gun skins all the time.

Wow, the Wii U = epic fail and I won't be surprised if we see management on the chopping block because of this--both in Japan and the US.

Nintendo's strategy is a mess to put it bluntly--they need to decide if they want to be a game developer/publisher first and foremost or if they want to compete as a first-rate gaming platform/technology vendor. Their problem is that they are trying to be both, but you can't be a first-rate gaming platform without developer support--no matter how awesome your branded titles are and how many kids and parents buy your games, without 3rd-party support you will never beat Microsoft and Sony.

On a side note, Nintendo probably has the best back-catalog of game titles/franchises and they should be milking it for what it's worth by making those games available on every platform. It would be awesome if they Nintendo expanded the Virtual Console to be more like Steam--sign up for an account and purchase the games you want once (with the ability to download/play them on up to 5 devices including Nintendo Wii consoles, DS handhelds, Android/iOS devices or PC web browser) or pay monthly for an all-you-can-play plan that gives you access to their entire back catalog and any 3rd-party titles they can get rights to.

Nintendo should have an official Virtual Console app for iOS/Android. Do they think this would cut into their profit margins? They can sell an official controller for their app with a decent margin on the hardware. They can get around the Apple tax by not having in-app billing and not selling titles through the iOS app--Nintendo can keep all the profit themselves. Unfortunately, their current strategy is to limit the market for Nintendo games to their own crappy hardware.

I really wish Nintendo would just transition to a Software only company. I personally feel like they have some gem franchises that they use to blackmail you into buying their shit hardware (GameCube + era). For me personally, this extortion ended with the Wii..

I would happily purchase a new Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc title, I will not purchase propritary hardware just to play it.

Lol guys, the Wii U is going to be fine. This is like deja vu with the 3DS all over again...

FB2 engine was tested but failed beyond anything or so they siad

They never said that the Frostbite 2 engine failed anything, but rather that they didn't find it worthwhile to pursue converting the engine. Chances are that since they're transitioning to Frostbite 3, they don't want to spend the money to convert the old engine to the Wii U when most (if not all) of their upcoming games won't be using it.

Really worked out for Sega... =(

Sega's IP is nowhere near the same quality as Nintendo's IP. All Sega really has is Sonic. Nintendo has some huge franchises with Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Smash Bros., and Donkey Kong. If they decided to only make software and if either Sony or MS would go on an exclusivity agreement with them, it would be a really big deal that could make or break the war between MS and Sony.

Hopefully Sony. The day Mario and Link are wearing dog tags and green armor and running around with assault rifles in green/greyscale worlds full of cutscenes and explosions, which is what will happen on Xbox to cater to the demographic , is the day I no longer care about video games.

You're right! Because there are no other games on Xbox besides shooters, and the PS3 has none.
