EA cans the deadspace franchise and shuts down developer...

You know, it seems kind of odd to attribute universal ammo to microtransactions - since in practice, all it did was make sure you would always be buried in ammo.

Dead Space 3 uses various resources in the building of weapon parts and weapon upgrades and also in the upgrading of your rig. While you can use resources to build healthpacks and ammo, the microtransactions are basically there so you can quickly build the gun you want or upgrade you rig faster. So the microtransactions don't buy you ammo, they buy a chunk of resources that allow you to build/upgrade what you want with them. Basically, you can use microtransactions to upgrade your bots which lets you farm resources quicker or instantly buy a chunk or resources. They're not needed at all since you can easily get the needed to resources to build the best weapons and fully upgrade your rig in during the course of the game. Basically, the microtransactions are more like paying for cheat codes that let you have a fully upgraded rig and powerful weapons early in the game.

I didn't have the vehement hate for EA that some did for including the microtransactions. In the end, I didn't like that they were there but the game's difficulty wasn't changed to punish people for not using them. Like I said basically they're paying for cheat codes.

I'm glad the article turned out to be bs. I enjoyed the Dead Space franchise so far and hope to see it continue. Sure, DS3 had it's probelm (weak story to begin with, terrible love triangle, tepid gunplay) but overall it was a good game and didn't have any major problems at launch. Some were worried about EA ruining the franchise with microtransactions and making it call of duty but the microtransactions didn't punish people who ignored them and it didn't turn into a COD action fest. The worst I could fault EA for was the poor marketing which made it to look like some epic end of the world game which wasn't the tone of the game at all. I'm much more concerned with what has happened to Sim City 5 than anything EA's done with the Dead Space franchise.
