Gets to 3.8(400 x 9.5) @ 1.35v, passes Prime95 Blend for 8 hours.

I start up Bad Company 2, crashes after 3 hours of gameplay...slashes of different colors all across the screen(white, black, several tones of purple) and a loud buzzing noise.

I'm using Gigabyte EasyTune6 for this...

I know it's not my GPU because it passed 3hrs of MSi Kombustor @ 1080p 4x AA...It's only slightly OC'd and is @ stock voltage.

Specs are below...Any ideas?

would a problem with a cpu even cause graphical corruption?

personally I would use the BIOS instead of Easytune. I have zero issues with my E8500 at 3.8 so if you would like all my BIOS settings I can give them to you. I know we have different mobos but it might give you an idea of something to adjust.

Worth a try, i would really appreciate it.

I would say PSU or graphics card, if cpu dies you usually get reset/lock up.

another possibility maybe driver issues but I'd check gcard temperatures first, play some other game for a few hours see if it holds up.

GPU temps are fine, they don't jump past 70C, i always use the MSi on-screen server and keep an eye on them.

Turns out my BIOS is a version behind...but i can't update it because it only works with 32 bit OS. :x

I take it that you were attempting to update BIOS through the @Bios utility? that really is rather poor practice -- particularly the whole flashing from the internet bit.

If you have a USB flash stick laying around, you're better off using Q-Flash in the Bios setup menu.

And with regards to your BC2 crashes, have you tried removing, or at least reducing your GFX overclock? 920 is pretty high, and a couple of review sites that I've seen haven't even gotten that high; you may well be a smidge over the limit there...

edit: oh, I thought that was a 6950 in your rig, not a 6850, nvermind my saying that 920 was a high clock... not for a 6850

First...Set your computer to all stock... Try it. If its OK, re-OC each component slowly until its a problem

10$ on your RAM failing - and do not use Memtest86 to test it, test it with LinX or Memtest HCI

The thing that puzzles me is the fact that the PC passed Prime95 Blend(Ram+CPU) @ 3.8GHz @ 1.33V, but it crashes BC2 @ 3.8GHZ/1.35V...

I've had no problems with BC2 @ 3.6GHz with 1.25V...

Kinda scared to push the voltage any higher...how can 200MHz throw the CPU off so badly with a .1V increase?

Yea, i noticed that on the pictures you linked...

Maybe it's time to get a new CPU/MOBO...Money's too tight though, gonna need at least $180 to get a decent X4 and mobo. ugh...

Sandy Bridge would be the only upgrade worth considering so just wait until you can afford that. an Phenom 2 X4 build would be no better than what you have in games that dont effectively push more than 2 cores.

Yea, but with SB I might as well just build a whole new system...Gonna have to get new mobo, DDR3 ram, CPU, CPU heatsink, thermal paste possibly even a new PSU.

That's gonna run AT LEAST $400.

No, Blend just blends the MB subsystem along with the CPU, you want a stand alone memory tester, Memtest86 is NOT the best nor is Memtest HCI but Memtest HCI will catch things 86 won't. I trust Memtest HCI first before I trust Memtest 86. Same with P95 vs LinX. LinX > p95

Back off to 3.6Ghz and be happy if possible. I *never*_*ever* recommend OC'ing to limit and staying there. It's good to have some breathing room and not be at the edge of stability like that. The other cardinal rule is that every chip/config will have varying results, very very rarely do two configs have the exact same ceiling. When you throw in all the combinations of bios revisions, chipset revisions, steppings, weeks of production, ram chip quality (similar revisions/steppings to cpus, though the info can be hard/impossible to find depending on vendor), etc, etc, it adds up to two similar builds might have pretty different end results. I find that keeping voltage 10% below max air cool limit + keep max OC 5-10% below max prime95/stability testing = long and happy overclock.

As you are apparently a gamer, the difference between 3600mhz and 3800mhz with a 6850@920 is going to be approximately zero.

Hmmm...good point, thanks for the tips. :D

I might as well keep it @ 3.6GHz since it looks like i'll be needing an upgrade in the near future anyways. I'll be sure to get a MOBO that allows BIOS clocking next time...

I'll give those a try when i have the time to, thanks for the info.
