E6600 Conroe....24th or 27th at NewEgg and others? or unknown?

After doing a lot of research I'm all ready to jump for the E6600 Conroe whenever it comes out. I've heard some conflicting reports that it will be out on the 24th or the 27th to online retailers such as NewEgg and ZipZoomFly. Is there official word? I'm just trying to figure it out since I will have to probably order from work really fast.

Does anyone know when things like this are released to online retailers, are they normally available right at midnight? or at 10AM?

Only unfortunate thing is I assume that as I've seen posted there may be some price gouging going on and that it will not be available at the $316 price that's been stated. I have seen that a little while ago NewEgg had inflated the cost for the few hours I believe they had been selling the Extreme edition of the Conroe.

Any info on this?

Thanks,

~J

Newegg always inflates prices for new, hot items.

And from what I've heard, at the earliest, the 24th.
At the latest, the 7th of Aug.

So I should check at midnight tonight then I assume?

I was considering preordering from shopblt.com or tankguys.com just to get an order in, but I have no idea when it would ship since they aren't as big sellers as newegg and zipzoomfly and they may not get the same inventory. Unless there are any others I should know about.

Think its a good idea or should I wait? The thing with me is, I already purchased a majority of my parts to build my PC, I don't want to sit back and wait another month if thats the different between preordering and ordering it in a few days.

im in the same boat as you are. ive ordered everything but the cpu (E6600 for me as well).

im going to stay up around midnight or something and see if core 2 shows up at newegg/zipzoomfly/monarch, etc. if not, im sure 10AM tomorrow or the 27th we will see wider availability, as nightmare225 said.

Just wondering I haven't bought the motherboard or memory yet. Any reccomendations? I put another thread on the motherboard forum for this, but I have an ATI 1900XT and I'm not looking to crossfire, just want a good motherboard I can overclock at some point and some good memory.

I was looking at the Asus P5W DH Deluxe and the Asus P5B Deluxe, just wondered if you picked up one of those and what kind of memory you picked up.

Any idea if there is any special connection I need on the powersupply I'm looking for to make sure I have the right connections for it? I'd hate to buy everything and find out I need one little adapter cable or something and have to wait even longer to build it!

Thanks for everyones comments.

lol i could care less about crossfire too (im an nvidia guy and i think sli is a lot better than crossfire). i got the Asus P5W DH Deluxe...because i still have ide drives that i want to use, this build is going to be used for our home theater PC so the dolby digital live/master studio will come in handy, and anand got that board to overclock WAY more than the P5B Deluxe...goes to show that the 975x chipset is more mature than the 965x (obviously since the 965x came out just recently).

the psu should have a 24 pin connector (though its alright if your psu only has a 20 pin connector - 20 pin connections will work in the 24 pin slot) though they have 20 to 24 and vice versa adapters available, so i wouldnt worry about it.

memory wise, i got this set from newegg. even though some reviews/comments are bad, its because they bought it to work with their am2 boards, which this set is incompatible with unless you ship it to g.skill and they'll reprogram it for you. its also a nice price for a 2GB DDR2-800 kit as well.

if you didnt order a psu yet, i would suggest getting an enermax liberty 500W. its only 100 bucks at newegg. comes with all the connections you need. if you dont want to spend that much, fortron has their 450W psu for around 50 bucks. thats also a good deal.

I have an e6700 preordered from tankguys. I got my P5W DH Deluxe from them too. They said a few days ago that they had more orders out for the conroes from their suppliers than they had preorders at that time. Might want to give them a look

PS: Hi guys, my first post here ;)

They're just saying that it should be right around release date (7-27) I sure hope so, all my other parts are on the way.

The 27th is the official release date. It's probable that some vendors will jump the gun a bit, but the premium they charge may be quite high.

At first it was the 23rd (remember those people asking how it was going to be launched on sunday?) but Intel "delayed" the launch 'till the 27th.

My big problem is that I won't have the cash on hand to buy one on launch. Is it going to be like the Xbox 360, where they have them on launch day and never again for 3 months? Or will it be pretty steady availability?

I'm hoping they are available tonight. 12 EST has already come and gone, and 12 PST is probably the next thing to wait for. I can only hope :(
