My idle temps. at 3.4GHz and 1.375v are around 53 degrees with a 24 ambient temperature using CoreTemp. I've reseated the Big Typhoon several times and it stays around the same. I've also replaced the fan with a Panaflo 100cfm fan.
My friend's E6600 at 1.425v and 3.2GHz using a Zalman 9500 stays at around 41-42 degrees idle.
What the heck could be wrong for the temperatures to be that high for me? Is the Zalman a lot better than the Big Typhoon? Do the Allendales put out a lot more heat than the Conroes?
Edit:
I found that if I tightened the heatsink down further I got temps. to within reasonable levels. Now load temps. with the case closed dropped to 58-59 and about 54 with the case open. However, the high cfm Panaflo fan is just too loud even at low rpm so I ditched it and went back to the big typhoon fan. Temps. are reasonable enough for now. I might have to try the Zalman 9500.
