Well, I'd venture to guess that if you don't know much about hockey you don't know what cycling is. Or what a good forecheck looks like. Or understand why icing occurs? There are a bunch of little nuances (like with every sport) that if you understand, you will enjoy the game much better.

Understanding the offsides rule and the importance of the blue line helps a lot too. Since I explained that to my wife, she understands what's going on a lot better.

So basically the only strategy is subbing players in and hitting them hard....the end result being a bunch of guys flying around after a puck and shooting it in the goal.

You just proved him right. Stop now, you're just making yourself look foolish.

Yep, your correct. That is why hockey is so insanely popular. Its boring as shit

Not to mention, knowing the rules is not strategy in my book.

I hope you'll get to see the series end - in disappointment for Carolina. 😛

No, strategy is how they win games, and you can't win games if you ignore the rules. The rules have a huge impact on strategy in any sport, not just hockey.

I really don't care if you don't like hockey, and I have no interest in convincing you to like it. My original point was that you don't understand the game, and that could contribute to your finding it to be boring. You've proven that you have no understanding of the game, and whether that impacts your enjoyment of the game is something that we're not going to be able to reach a conclusion on.

Don't care huh? Sure doesn't seem like it. I'm still waiting for an explanation to the vast strategy of hockey other than knowing the rules and how to sub people. Even if they had "plays" or anything like that, in the end, its still guys flying back and forth shooting goals and hitting each other and there is no argument for that really.

I know, this series has me worried. 🙁 It has been a fun and exciting series to watch. The Devils are going to give me a heart attack.

I tried to explain strategy, you didn't understand it. I don't think you understood the term I was using.

It's fine, its not really a big deal. No one is trying to start a fight here. We are just saying, there is indeed strategy in hockey. Quite a bit of it in fact. There are a lot of different styles of play, some more flashy, others of the hard hitting variety. Just because you don't recognize the differences in play, doesn't mean they aren't there.

hockey to me is just soccer + ice + less pansy flopping. Boring as shit, back and forth for days with nothing happening

That's about as intelligent as saying football is rugby + pads + pansy players.

Basketball is just Golf with an elevated hole and tall players.

I don't understand how people bitch about low scoring in hockey. They score roughly the same amount as an average football game. Besides, scoring chances abound and those are the exciting part. They either get a goal, or the goalie makes an amazing save.

A lot of shots miss the goal. So, there's a scoring opp in which the goalie does nothing.

You can't really compare football & hockey in terms of game play. Most scores in football are a slow buildup, taking 5-15 plays. There is usually tangible progression/regression on every play. Hockey is more quick-strike.

Hockey is the greatest Team Sport. It certainly has more in common with Soccer than other sports, but the speed and physical aspect really sets it apart.

Exactly Flipped. That's why hockey is so exciting, the entire game could change at any instant. It's an edge of the seat for 60 minute roller coaster.

I can't see the pug half the time on TV, how do people see it at the game?

I've never seem a pug at a hockey game. Hope it doesn't get hurt.

Pugs would be easier to see, but that's awfully cruel.

Well Canada just booed the American national anthem, I'm guessing in retaliation during a previous game when we booed the Canadian anthem.

Anywho, I'm on Cloud 9

Again? In Montreal?

If it was in Montreal that's normal for them.

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that it is without value. It's like people who hate baseball saying there's no strategy involved. I don't like baseball much, but that doesn't mean it doesn't take skill and strategy.

Same with ice hockey.

You're only allowed to watch sports the rest of your family likes. So no Hockey for me. I want to watch it but get shot down endlessly. I've yet to actually see Ovey play, just hear all the great things about him. Sure is an ugly mugger, but that's good in Hockey, right? 😛

Doesn't hurt.
