E3 - Official Sony Press Conference Thread

Sony is batting clean-up when it comes to the big three. There are already rumors about heavy like GOW3 and Gran Turismo slipping to next year. What else can Sony bring to knock one out of the park versus MS and Nintendo.

Free cheesecake with every PS3 purchase.

A controller that uses only your brain. Features an interactive demo with a realistic mother in ar and her three babby.

Myspace integrati...um...nevermind.

...Slim PS3 at $300 or less?

On a more serious note, predictions I have (want to see how close I get):

1. GT5 will be ready for a winter/spring release.
2. GoW 3 will be ready for a fall/winter release.
3. Some new exclusives...no way to predict much here. Team Ico game, at least?
4. PSP Go. (Wow, I'm already ahead before it even started!)
5. Some sort of motion controller for PS2 or PS3.
6. $50-100 price drop, or a beefier bundle introduced for the same price. MAYBE a slim console. That one I'm not betting on.
7. Free cheesecake with every PS3 purchase.

It should come as a shock to absolutely no one if Gran Turismo slips.

I don't know how Polyphony Digital gets away with such a long gap in between games especially in light of competition that is releasing 2 or 3 full games in the time it takes them to make ONE. Let's not even get started on GT Mobile. Their game isn't THAT much better to warrant that much more development time. Some would argue the validity of GT being better than Forza at all, but that's another discussion for another thread.

I'm still waiting to see if the rumored megaton Sony has coming actually elicits anything more than a yawn like most megatons tend to do.

I'm definitely looking forward to any new announcements from Sony. I don't care about PS3 hardware revisions. I want to see new games.

I'm also over Gran Turismo. I bought and religiously played the first four titles, but once I discovered Forza 2, I just don't care what Polyphony Digital has to offer. As of now, their product is lacking.

Bring on some killer titles! Plus PS1 and PS2 downloads that are cross platform on the PSP and PS3. Heck PSP games playable on the PS3 would be cool too!

Just bring on the games! Maybe some price drops too. Sony give em hell! We need competition!

Sony really needs to mention Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Microsoft made it seem like it's an exclusive on the 360 now. If that's true, then ouch.

GT5 surely must be ready by now. Not that it matters, because I just suck at Prologue.😛

GoW 3 please.

Some new gimmick to make me go ooh ahh, like Microsoft did with Natal. Yeah, I know it's bullsh%#, but it still cool to look at.😀

I believe it was IGN that confirmed Rising as a 360 exclusive.

They get away with it because they sell like 10 million copies of each game (I made up that number, but I'd bet it's close). They sold well over 3 million copies of GT5P, which most people considered a demo (which it wasn't).

I agree with you though. The GT series isn't really better or worse than the Forza series at this point IMO. While I've cast my lot with GT5 (many more wheel options than 360), Polyphony needs to realize that Forza is just as good and more fully featured at this very point in time, so they need to get GT5 out pronto.

I was reading that in an interview with the lead guy over GT, he said that the reason it was taking them so long because they were doing painstaking work on the car models. They basically were making them good enough for GT5 AND GT6. When GT6 comes around, they won't have to put so much time into making vehicles (just the few they will add), and instead they will focus the majority of their time on making the tracks, scenery, and crowd realistic.

Plus, they've already announced damage modeling (announced for GT5P as well, but you see how that's turned out), changing weather conditions, and night-time racing to GT5.

I believe it was IGN that confirmed Rising as a 360 exclusive.

Unless there was a more recent confirmation, this is all I could find on IGN:

Link

While this news comes at the Microsoft presser, no announcements of exclusivity were revealed, so for now, expect this to be multiplatform, or a timed-exclusive at the very least.

UPDATE: Looks like there might be confirmation that MGS: Rising could well be coming to the PlayStation 3 and PC in addition to Xbox 360. Konami's list of games on Games Press (a private PR service for the press) now shows the title coming to all three platforms. Konami unfortunately will not make official comment at this time, so we will have to wait for all the rumors to be proven true or false until tomorrow afternoon when Sony has its conference (11AM PST).

We should know for sure soon enough.

That was the link that said it was exclusive yesterday, but they've since changed their update to read entirely different.

To sum it up simply-

Press skepticism aside, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will go down in history as having helped the Gran Turismo series reach a major milestone. Today, SCEA proclaimed to the world that the racing franchise has shipped 50 million units worldwide, thanks in large part to this latest entry, which is available both at retail and digitally via the PlayStation Store.

To put that it in perspective that is more games then Blizzard has sold total in then last ten years(how long GT has been around). That is why Polyphony can take as long as they want 😉

If it's just the PSP Go and a bunch of stuff we've already heard about, it's going to be a bad year for Sony, I wasn't overly impressed with the MS Conference, but they definitely hauled out the big guns when it came to exclusive content and threw some big names on stage.

I would like to think Sony saw Microsoft's show and didn't immediately start scrambling for stuff, but I'm not overly optimistic at this point.

Rumors are floating that there will be three new IPs shown off at Sony's press conference. Possibly from Rockstar, Kojima, and Square.

i'd love to see a new Jak and Daxter game being developed, possibly a Sly Cooper as well.

i'd also like to see a new Hot Shots Golf game.

i also full expect to see the new R&C, Uncharted 2, and God of War 3, with GOW3 being a major part of their conference.

and for the PSN's sake, i hope they really show some nice new features for it because it's so far behind XBL in it's current state. but since i don't pay for it i cant complain 🙁

i also hope they DONT blabber on and on about HOME, they should just scrap it.

HOME has it's uses, they are just few and far between. Ignore the social aspect and it could serve as a great clan/party tool if Sony keeps working on it.

Keighley just twittered that Assassin's Creed 2 will be demoed during the Sony presentation.

Watch the megaton announcement be that Home is going gold. 😉

LOL @ all the pissed off MS fanboys comments for the Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 trailer at gametrailers. 4 playable characters + online co-op and PS3 exclusive. Woot woot, maybe I'll get it.

It's not going to take much for Sony to come out with a better conference than Nintendo this year. It'll be tough for them to top Microsoft though.

Nice! Too bad I don't have any PSN friends to play with 🙁

FYI - The Gamespot feed is now live. They are just showing some trailers for different games from the different consoles right now but it is active.
