guys,

i got my self a mother board, striker extreme.
and due to financial crysis , i am anable to get a costly processor.

hence i have thought about e2160 intel/

wat do u say?

i have heard it overclocks to 3ghz, with stock cooling.

wat do u say guys?

Should work. A better approach is the Abit IP35-E ($70 AR @ MWAVE). Easy 500MHz FSB. Put the $ saved toward a quad Peryn next year.

E2160 isn't even much faster than Socket 939 Opteron. Also note that the board is heavily advertised towards high-end gaming crowd. I would suggest the least expensive 1066/1333 FSB CPU you could find.

so wat are u guyzz suggesting me to do?,

1). i am low on cash.
2). need performance ,to run all recent and near future games.

and one more thing i forgot to mention? i have corsair cm2x1024-6400 ,5-5-5-12 latency RAM.

so which processor has wat i want in a lowest budgt, ? some one told me e2160 would do the trick..

but i want u people to judge it also before i spend my savings//

[I am the judge!] Too bad you blew your wad on the motherboard. I laugh at a $300 motherboard with an $80 CPU. You would have gotten better performance with a $200 CPU and $100 motherboard, and pocketed the $80. [/I am the judge!]

If you don't have the money and need to get your new setup running, then get whatever you want. The E2xxx series is good for a cheap chip.

i like to put light on this point that????????

mobo is the base. without the land u cant build a house? i no u would agree to this point.

well a house can be broken and build again and again,. not the land.

so instead of laughing, u can be the real judge and point out the weakness of the house.
house - processor
land - mobo

so let it be a $10 or $1000 stuff. point out the goods and the bad!

appreciated!

what if theres an earthquake? wheres your land now ;)

what you said is true but that doesn't mean you can't get a really good mobo for a low price. just because you paid more for it doesn't always mean its better.

thats funny!

well to be frank.. its gamers choice! its a overclocking father's father!

its stable.
with a huge stuff which u would need next gen!

by saying that striker extreme is not good! ur just understating the real hiden stuff!

well nothing more to argue on the mother board.

AND YEA! THERE ARE EARTHQUAKE PROTECTORS IN THE MOTHER BOARD!( stable capacitors if u no)

the post is about the processor , not a debate on mobo!

Everyone's point is. You bought a really nice piece of ocean front property but now you can only afford to put up a 1 room house.
If you'd bought a nice piece of land in town you would have money to put up a nice house.

Did you just get a good deal on the mobo? That's normally a $300 board when a $100-175 would do a very nice job. Can you exchange it?
Check Asus site for the QVL approved memory list. With the amount your wanting to over clock I'd bet you need good QVL approved memory.
In general I think some of the earlier posts have answered your question, that yes its possible but you may have a tough road ahead.

i got a hard-disk to,. 750gb seagate ,7200.10 rpm,

i was just expecting some points on the processor, as will it play the games, and stand atleast near the performance level.

I have both an E6600 and an E2160. The E2160 does 3GHz without any problems. It is fast at everything when running at such high frequency, but the Core 2 Duo CPUs with their 2MB or 4MB L2 caches are definitely faster when running games. Whether this is something that is going to be noticeable for you is something I can't answer. I would guess that it won't be a problem, though.

You might want to check out the E4300 instead, to get the 2MB cache.

hey , thanks atlast.
But if i get e4300 or e4400, i believe they are at 2.0ghz!
and afcourse ur right, 2mb cache, How far can i stock overclock these processors u have suggested.. can they beat this e2160 @ 3ghz? in stock settings.

AND I KINDA LIKE UR CONFIG!

At some point you will need to do a pin mod as you will run out of overclocking room on nvidia, on the 200 mhz fsb.

The E4300 is at 1.8GHz, just as the E2160. The E4400 is at 2GHz, as you said.

At 2.6-2.7GHz, the E4300 probably matches (or even beats) the E2160 at 3.0GHz. The overclocking headroom of both the E4300/E4400 and E2160 seems to be about the same. Most of them hit 3.0-3.3GHz, using reasonable cooling and voltages.

e4300, e4400, e2160 prices are almost similar right?
the place wr i live, e4300 is not available.

so i have a choice between e2160 and e4400.

so wat do u suggest which one to go for? and the reason y u choose it?

I'd go for the E4400 if the price difference wasn't too big and I planned on keeping the CPU for a while. I'd choose it because there is a risk that gaming performance could suffer noticeably with the E2160.

But I'd like to know:

- What's the price difference between these two CPUs where you live?
- How long do you plan to keep the CPU?

Got my E4400 running @ 3Ghz with default voltages. Just be sure to get a decent cooler. Newegg has the Artic Cooling Freezer 7 for just $20.

Just like everyone else so discreetly said, you're a retard. In so many ways. If you're not gonna take our advice, then stop spamming our forums.

If you want the best performance. Sell the striker (if you haven't opened it), it's a waste of money and offers a lot LESS than a lot of the $150 motherboards, like the Asus P5K-E and the Gigabyte DS3P (it uses an older chipset.) You could have had a quad core or at least one of the better dual cores, like the E6750.

Motherboards all work, they rarely break down, if that's what you were scared of, anything above the budget boards just gives you some more features that you'll never get to use.

hi there again, nice of u to reply,

well i am buying the processor just for 6 months or so, later will upgrade to penryn, as i have planned. waitng for penryn to be launched and to get used to it.
the quad rite now is not a good processor. AND expensive.

well i live in india/.

the price difrence between both is around $25 i guess.
and i want to overclock the cpu on stock cooler!
!!
dont wanna spend on coolers and stuff.

Yes, it will play games and be at whatever performance level you overclock to.

Besides the super expensive motherboard, why did you get that RAM? At those latencies it isn't anything special so I hope you got a cheap price on it.

If all you're using the CPU for is as a stopgap until Penryn comes out, then get the cheapest chip you can and save money for the Penryn. Heck, you can get a Celeron 420 for around HALF the price of an E2160, since it is basically half the processor (single core version).
