Good deal until it breaks in a year and you cant get any service for it regardless of your warranty.

Also, would be embarrassing to have a "dynex" tv in a room where guests may actually watch it.

edit

after reading reviews i may buy it

lulz

i might give you the 1st part about the warranty but the wnd part about the brand name - 😕 - uh, who cares?

Zomg! don't let your friends/guests see it!

back on topic - does it have built in speakers? How do they sound?

 Are you and your guests really that shallow?

"Hey Biff, Insominator's tv produces a maaahvelous picture"
"Sure, but did you see the brand Chaz?"

Only problem is, no one will say that if he had a Dynex. And don't give me this "AVS" raves about it. You have to keep it in context. They may RAVE about it being a decent cheap TV, but it ain't touching a Samsung, Sony, Panasonic or Pioneer. Dynex's competition is Vizio, which isn't good company to be in anyway. Dynex is battling it out for the "best of the crappy TVs" award. I guess you could "rave" about that.

I agree with Insomniator, I wouldn't be trying to "show off" my cool new Dynex TV. If you want a cheap HDTV that you want to put maybe in the bedroom, I guess that is ok. But it's not something I'd want to be "showing off."

I would not put Vizio in the same category as this brand. Vizio is in the middle somewhere. I have owned many LCD's and I would pick a Vizio over a Sony any day. Sure the Sony might have some more features and a picture quality only nit pickers can see but it also cost a ton more to buy. I would rather save my cash. I currently have the Philips 52" 120hz tv and that is a brand you did not even mention. a Vizio 47" LCD, and a 65" DLP. All are 1080P and when properly calibrated they have similar pictures for 95% of people. The other 5% are just high tech snobs 😉

Vizios are the top of the low end. Nothing more. I'd put Philips in just above low end at around low mid level. And I'd put DLP in a totally different category. DLP will give you the best bang for your buck for a large screen. As a matter of fact, Samsung and Mitsubishi make some fantastic DLPs. But if you think only a "tech snob" is the only person who can tell the difference between a DLP and a high end LCD or plasmas, you're only lying to yourself. But hey, if that make you feel better, knock yourself out. 😉

Cant we all just get along?
Its a cheap ass tv, who really cares what others think or how it looks, if your happy with it, as I am myself, then fuck everyone else for it should only matter to you if your happy with its picture, how much you paid, and if you have shallow friends that would think of you in a different light because your tv say Dynex on it, well then, IMO you dont need them as a friend.

The vast majority of the LCD tv's is made by one single company in China, and in most cases your paying for the brand name and a few extra features the company, IE sony, Samsung, paid extra for to have their brand stand out a bit more thn the others to trick you into thinking they built their tv, and they are the best because you get a few more inputs in different locations, and a few menu features, but the min lcd screen itself, maybe not the casing, the pcb board, just the screen and its guts, come from one Chinese builder thats sells the screens to OEM and sell off at a much higher dollar because it will samsung on the front of it.

But if you look at this chart you will see that NOT all of sammy lcd's are made by sammy, and by looks of it only Sharp makes their own screens, and makes some for even Phillips, so long and short of it is, like I said, you buying the name on the tv, but the screen inside is the same pretty much for every tv you see on the shelf at the store

So chances are great that this tv will look, and last as long as the "name brand" tv's, just cost a few hundred less because it says Dynex on it, just may not have as many fancy features as the big guy names.

And this holds true for pretty much ANYTHING you buy, most cases its one company that makes them, the internal guts, and the OEM guys ask them to change the case around, use a different chip, but once it gets slapped on it with a name brand the price doubles or triples in cost, because your again, just buying the name.

No one said your friends are going to stop being your friends for buying a cheap TV or think any less of you. I don't care what my friends have. They can have a cheap CRT for all I care. The people that get bent out of shape about this are the people that actually bought the cheap ass TV. I couldn't care less what people buy. If you want a Dynex, Vizio of Insignia, knock yourself out. It's your money, not mine. But don't try and pretend it is something it is not.

LOL, so a Dynex is just a Samsung 6 series in disguise. Give me a break. Yes, manufacture share some parts, but that DEFINITELY doesn't mean they are the same as higher end manufactures. Pioneer is going to use Panasonic glass on their 10G models. Does that mean next years Panasonic plasmas will be just the same as Pioneer's 10G models with less "features"? Seriously? Is this what you tell yourself to make you feel better? TVs are not jeans. It is not "just" a brand name. The Sony brand is regarded as one of the highest end brands in TVs, however Samsung has been slapping them around last year and even this year. It's not JUST a name, you've got to earn it with performance. And all the top brands have earned their spot in the top slots.

Again, if you want a Dynex, Insignia, Vizio or whatever other low end TV, that is perfectly fine. It is your purchase and what YOU have to be happy with at the end of the day. But let's call it what it is and not pretend it is something it's not.

I never said tech snobs could tell the diff between DLP and LCD. I said they are the only ones that can tell a diff between any 1080P LCD period IF IT IS ISF CALIBRATED. So if you are not an ISF calibrator you can not contradict that statement I just made. Our tools don't lie. Sure there are some minor differences in levels but like I said "most" people would never notice.

So you are trying to say only a "tech snob" can tell the difference between a calibrated Dynex and a Samsung 950 LCD? LOL, that's a good one. You have any other good jokes?

No joke just 20 + years as a ISF certified contractor.

Can I take your test? I'll invite some not so "tech snobs" over too. Dynex anything vs Samsung 950 LCD. 😉

Oh, and you may want to get your light meter checked because there ain't NO WAY the Dynex or Vizio is getting anywhere close to the 950's blacks levels. But who cares about black levels, that doesn't have anything to do with picture quality.

I read last spring about "Disposable" low end HD TVs (i.e., there were some brands that literally COULDN'T be repaired if they broke after the warranty period expired cause the companies didn't distribute repair/ replacement parts in the US. See links below.

HD guru article

A WCPO consumer article

VIZIOs change in warranty policy after above article

Anyone know if this situation has changed to any great extent and where Dynex fits in w.r.t. warranty/ repair?

Not trying to t/c; even if the some sets can't be repaired if they break after the warranty expires, a potentially 'disposable' tv for $600 may still make the most sense for some people. Just don't want anyone to get an unpleasant surprise. . .

That's why you always get a warranty through the store.

I purchased an off-brand 32" lcd almost 2 years ago and now it is having issues. I used my AMEX and with one phone call I should have most of my purchase price refunded without having to ship the tv or haul it to a b&m for a month long 'diagnosis'.

This. I paid a little extra for the 4 year warranty. If I ever have a problem, I just walk in and exchange my TV.

If it had a one year warranty, AMEX would give you an extra year. You better hope that it was less than 2 years. I'll settle for my 4 year for $60.
