It is a fact that innocent people have been executed. That is a failed system.Maybe not a popular take here, but I am against the death penalty even for people like Dylan Roof. His attempts to weasel out of his sentence don't change that for me cause he's a shitty person and nothing he's going to do after murdering 9 people is going to somehow be worse than murdering 9 people.
If he stays alive, gets treatment, and one day realizes that he threw his life away... if one day he wakes up and is truly remorseful for the shit that he did, but knows that he will live and die in prison for his crimes, that is a punishment worse than death.
Works for me, not a huge fan of the death penalty. All I can add is that I hope his pain in that situation lasts a long time. Don't off him too fast...
^^ Stupid, pointless image blocked.
We should not be on the hook to feed, house, and provide health care for these people for the rest of their life. Average cost to keep a prisoner locked up is around $40K/year, for maybe another 50 - 60 years for this guy. That's $2,000,000 minimum, to satisfy your desire for him to suffer.
That because the gallows are not behind the courthouse. If you're arguing from a financial angle, perhaps some further information is needed.

What Criminal Sentence Costs More: Death or Life in Prison?

No conjugal visits for those guys.
Why is the state obligated to protect him in prison? In fact they SHOULD put him in a ward with a lot of brothers who will welcome him with open arms. Treat him just like the other prisoners
Why should he have a good time in prison?

I'm not saying facilitate meaning put him in a room with a horny inmate and close the door. I'm saying don't treat him any differently then the other inmates.I don’t think the state should be in the business of facilitating rape as punishment.

Prisoners get attacked everyday so the rules for protecting them isn't as strict as the rules would seem.
I would pass the word around to the inmates this guy is not to be killed. However torturing him for 10 years is on the table. Some prisoners do get attacked sometimes, but this prisoner will absolutely get killed. They can’t be reckless about assured death.

Exactly!!I mean I'd say that the issue there is that we are allowing prisoners to be attacked every day rather than we are not allowing this one to be attacked as well.
That's why I say just let him be part of the natural order in prison. Other inmates will see that he regrets killing those people. It usually feels right to be against the death penalty, but in cases like this I don’t really care. He did it, he was caught in the act, had his trial, case closed. The only problem is how expensive it is when a few bucks worth of bullets would suffice. Could save a couple million dollars worth of taxpayer money.

To hell with “making him suffer” with solitary life in prison, a fate obviously worse than death … it’s not worth the money.
