I just finished the first night mission. I got past it much more easily than I expected, but it's a pretty tense encounter, just because of the lack of visibility. The "Volatiles," (rapid night zombies) have a line-of-sight like a patrol in most games that you have to try to avoid, but at the same time, when you're trying to run from a few, you end up ignoring the mini-map and running into more just trying to dodge the first few.

I'm really liking the game so far, though the combat is a bit on a bland side. I've only been using the basic melee stuff and a few throwing stars so far, but I recently made an electric knife I've yet to try out, which might be pretty sweet.

The crafting of weapons gets better I suppose later. Is the first night mission the first air drop? I think that is where I'm at but I've been debating doing one more quest before starting it. The side quests themselves are pretty tough too. I had to face 4-5 humans armed with weapons with just a wrench. How do you upgrade your weapons? I've got some blue prints but haven't figured out how to do it.

The first night mission is when you offer to solo the air drop after Brecken gets hurt. I did every side quest before it (only a few) except the one to get the guy a pistol, as I simply didn't come across one. I assume the side quest you're referring to is the one with Bento and the meds? I died once during it, but you can basically run back and forth between the two cars in the lot and use them as cover.

For the modifications, I think you can do it from either the Inventory (while the weapon is highlighted, you press the left trigger on the One) or the Blueprints (highlight the blueprint and select it, given you have all of the necessary items) tabs.

I actually just realized that there are two upgrade options:

1. You can use the "Craft," ability, which lets you use your blueprints. That is activated by the right trigger, and the option appears on the weapons after you get the materials.
2. You earn actual weapon upgrade items after some quests. Those are what the left trigger is used for--attaching the upgrade items to a weapon.

Yea I think its the same on the ps4. I guess I'll go ahead and do the rest of the quests first in case I find better equipment. That's the mission I'm on where you offer to go instead of Brecken. Have you done any co op? It tells you it will save mission progress in the co op session so I didn't do it because I didn't know what would happen with my single player campaign. The gun quest you can leave for later as you may find one doing other missions. Check police cars and trucks, I know there is one by a house near the water where there is a sign that says take what you want I don't need it anymore. You will find a guy that killed himself there and there should be a gun around.

No go on co-op thus far. I just don't know anyone else with the game, might check the Xbox forums for someone to run along with.

I'm ~3 hours in and am very impressed. It's not parkor as much as it is being able to quickly move through environments by leaping onto ledges, roofs, etc. No wall jumping atleast now.

First boss encountered. More of a mid-boss or whatever. Basically a slow moving zombie protecting an area you need to get into. But he was swinging a huge "bat". I killed him and now have the "bat". I think it was actually rebar with concrete on the end. Like a chunk of foundation I guess. Got a hint that a fast moving zombie is coming soon.

I am happy that they made it fun. Grabbing onto ledges is simple. It could have easily have been ruined by making that behavior poor. If tweaking the ledge grabbing system was hte reason for hte delay, they did it right.

1 am, 3 beers ... F spelling fixes.

I have two friends with the game that both like it.

I hsould havemy mod mic early next week. Then I get PS Plus. Then I can tell people aboutonline play with friends. I have .... TWO!

How odd is it with the jump button mapped to R1? I'm assuming it's mapped there so you can control the camera while jumping.

I finished the airdrop mission and another quest with a friend. We got chased by volatiles like crazy. He joined me since he was further than me and that way I can progress and he just helps. It was pretty fun and I leveled up a lot because we survived a during the few nights.

It depends on how well you adapt to different styles of gameplay. It was awkward for me for a little bit, but I got used to it without much issue. I don't really feel that I needed it mapped that way, because the only instance in which I really needed to look around while jumping was the tutorial. That said, it works pretty well more because of the LB-RB combos (the Dropkick attack).

How did you do the voltage quest? I can't seem to do it without another person. I don't know where the damn building is either. I get there and get to the area with a bunch of transformers but I don't know where to go from there. There are 3-4 volatiles in that area too.

I'm actually in-progress there. Are you doing the main station right now, or still the first, smaller ones? I did the first ones during the day, as I think it's just the last which needs done at night. I got there just before nightfall, and the place was jam-packed with zombies, probably 50+. I opted to head back to The Tower, sleep until morning, and I'm going to do that quest for Dawud (finding the pistol), then go clear the place out before the night happens. Then, I can hopefully flip the breaker right as the Volatiles arrive and GtFO.

Yea I already cleared the place out but there is no point they will still be there unless you plan to stick there until night time. The only thing I have to do is go there and flip the last switch. Its in a building to the left of the area with all the transformers. Getting in there at night is a pain in the but because all the volatiles are patrolling that area.

Its early in the morning so what I plan on doing is just going there, entering the building and just wait until night. Flip the switch and then I think there is a bed in there too. Volatiles will still be around the area after the power is turned on too.

Well, he said flipping the switch should kill the Volatiles. I just intend to clear it out and come back right before night, rather than hanging around forever.

Yea I tried at night and I couldn't reach the building because of the volatiles. They roam around the perimeter like crazy. Thats why I'll just waste time and then go there when its closer to night.

I don't like it.

I wish Sony mandated that certain buttons do certain things by default unless there is a good reason.

OK, when there are non zombies around as some sort of side mission that appears (a bunch of red arrows in the map), what am I supposed to do? Every time I go attack them they quickly kill me. I'm only a few hours into the game.

You mean they are humans? You just need a better weapon. I took out five or six humans with just a lead pipe for that bento quest. Just climb, parry, try and hit them from the side or when they are not facing you.

For whatever reason, they seem to not get stunned as much and have stronger attacks. I almost always get annihilated by them for some reason.

Yea they are a bit rough to take down. Craft Molotov's and use those and when you upgrade your power get the drop kick or slide kick maneuver. When my friend joined me in co op he gave me a meat cleaver and huge fireman Axe so I've been using that. I'm at the part now where I have to meet Rais.

It'll also depend on which abilities you currently have. The Leg Breaker is a great thing, as I think it instantly kills them every time. You can try the Dropkick as well, but they dodge it pretty often. Otherwise, you need to make sure you Dodge a lot, assuming you have that ability (RB+Left Stick), as they attack quickly and will use thrown weapons.

As for the button issue, I've come around to the idea that it has to be that way. When you get to the first night mission, you'll understand. Trying to look and jump with A while running would be a gigantic pain in the butt.

Yup you have to use both sticks to maneuver so using a button to jump would be very annoying. I'm glad I got it on ps4 rather than xbox because of the controller. I like the Xbox controller a lot but I can reach my r1 much easier and more comfortable than I can reach the r1 bumper on the x1. Maybe I'm just not used to it because its flush with the controller and it feels like I'm having to extend my finger upward.

Also, try and keep all your skills on an equal level. Don't level one skill more than the other. Once your agility is upgraded I noticed its much easier to run, and parkour...its great.

It's hard to keep things close to even, I've decided. It's not CRAZY, but I do too much free-world killing and running to keep my Survivor rank close. I'm at Survivor 6, Agility 10, and Power 8. I haven't really found much in the way of two-handed weapons, except the Heavy Rebar (which I've always sold immediately), so I have yet to try the ability to drop and smash while in mid-air yet.

Also, was there a specific requirement for Dawud? I found a pistol in a locked police van, but it didn't mark the objective for finding the pistol. I found what I think was called a German 9mm Pistol, and it makes me wonder if that near-water house has the pistol that you MUST use for the quest. I guess I'll have to go back by there and look around for that place.

Yea it is a 9mm German pistol. Its at the water house by the bay where all the shacks are. Also at the water by the shacks if you look in the ocean and see a big rock you can swim there and you will find an ex caliber sword stuck in a zombie. You have to hold the take button for a minute or two until it gets pulled out. The zombie will catch fire and you also get the blueprints that way.

I found a glitch where if you throw a weapon in the air and go in the menu while its thrown and drop the weapon, you can duplicate it.

Interesting. The quest ended up being finished. Instead of updating the quest after I got the pistol by marking the objective completed, it just left it unmarked and placed, "TURN IN," under the objective description when I made it my active quest. That's why I thought I needed a specific pistol.

I'll have to go check for those other things.
