I don't get your hate for AOTS, it is one of the early DX12 games done properly, look at GOW for comparison, what a mess. My rig ran AOTS fine, and AOTS even takes advantage of multiple GPUs! This is what we need to see more of, games with multiple GPU support on release. This is where DOOM is lacking, though I will say it runs pretty good and is Doom lol!

Games suck balls now period. 50GB for a 5hr single player campaign, DLC that should have been part of the game in the first place, empty cookie cutter military shooters, ridiculous patch sizes, games broken Day 1. Meh. Doom may have been an exception but the past 2yrs games have mostly been pure trash. GTA V was nothing but a disappointment - Rockstar sold out everything for multiplayer and I still have nightmares of 6 DVD9's then a fat multi-gigabyte Day 1 patch for a single player campaign that was gutted compared to IV.

pretty much this.

I feel like you guys are a bit too harsh on the games. GTA V campaign was awesome personally.

Dark Souls III is a pretty sweet game, and so is the new Doom. Overwatch is looking pretty cool as well.

Maybe you need a break from gaming. I find I get bored of gaming in general, take a break and when I come back I have way more fun.

If Vulkan is the offspring of OpenGL, then I want Vulkan. I don't like Direct3D. Its bad for gamers. It costs us money and gives us crap in return.
Break the monopoly! Break the chains!

I know you already know this, but Vulkan is like the adopted child of OpenGL. It's being raised by the parents of OpenGL, but it has a different lineage than OpenGL. DX12 is Vulkan's brother from another mother.

It's like the API version of a daytime soap opera. :D

Overwatch is yet more multiplayer trash, GTA V was short cut down trash with rubbishly written characters and no focus beyond pull a house down a hill and now lets go rob banks. It was utter trite crap, beyond a cliche as Rockstar goes. Horrific. A trainwreck. Filler fetch quests. I'll get back into gaming once single player is the focus. With an actual plot that isn't a collection of tropes.

Same goes for modern hardware. Overpriced mid range fluff with cards that die after a year when Nvidia decides to stop providing driver updates.

It might be time to stop gaming for a while. You sound burnt out.

Forza Apex is a DX12-only game (and UWP to boot!) and it runs beautifully on my PC, which is amazing considering it's a beta. I'm super excited for the full version and will buy it day one.

Aside from that, the Doom engine is very performant for a fps engine, but it really isn't pushing the bar in visuals any more than Frostbite or a couple other engines are.

You haven't been paying attention to DOOM if you think there are better looking engines than it. A lot has to do with the art direct and animators, of course, but... What other engine has the same type of particle system as DOOM, where light sources can cast shadows on the particles? I've never seen a game that has shadows on smoke, or light sources lighting particles, or particles with individual light sources. Not to mention the Temporal SSAA or Direction Occlusion.

GTA V was nothing but a disappointment - Rockstar sold out everything for multiplayer and I still have nightmares of 6 DVD9's then a fat multi-gigabyte Day 1 patch for a single player campaign that was gutted compared to IV.
Ugh, GTA IV's campaign was shit. It was the shittiest shit ever. I had to force myself to finish it and I hated every second of it. Overall plot that was completely forgettable (I've forgotten what it was about), bad acting, bad writing, "NIKO, MY COUSIN! LET'S GO BOWLING!" <- 'nuff said. Plus it was ugly and ran like shit. Best thing about GTAIV was "Four Leaf Clover". GTA V was brilliant by comparison. I couldn't put it down.

ID should make a DOOM OS and it should work with nothing but openGL and Vulkan. I want the inferior Direct3D to die, forever. Admit it. Direct3D is slower than OpenGL. It sucks and it always did when compared to OpenGL. OpenGL was always faster and better and it still is. It just wasn't used as much because Microsoft has the money to push their inefficient garbage onto us. I like OpenGL. I want OpenGL. If Vulkan is the offspring of OpenGL, then I want Vulkan. I don't like Direct3D. Its bad for gamers. It costs us money and gives us crap in return.
Break the monopoly! Break the chains!

Maybe the ID developers are just good at building a game engine and if forced to do similar in DX12 they could make an equally good engine.

To me it seems that nvidia has made videocards that utilize all the power of their hardware in both dx 11 and 12, and amd cards cannot utilize their full potential in dx11. So if nvidia cards perform 100/100 in dx11/dx12 then amd cards perfom 90/110 in dx11/dx12.

You never finished it. Remember the choices Niko made? Roman or the wedding? Killing or sparing Ivan? The Holland Play? Darko? Derrick McReary? V is a joke. IV had heft. Its like comparing HBO vs Cinemax. GTA V is an abortion and I won't give Rockstar a dollar for VI which likely won't have a single player campaign online just multiplayer mush.

DX12/Vulcan is the future for large scale RTS battles with acceptable framerate.

Go and try to get a good framerate on a realistic WW2 battle in ARMA 2 I44. Or try to play any DX9 RTS with over 10k units and see how it goes for you. DX12 is one step forward.

I'm still playing XP supported titles and I am having a lot more fun than the recent AAA titles I have played. I'd rather have a good game with mods for replayability than a great game that gets old fast because it runs out of content in a week. Barely any new titles support mods AND multiplayer.

Well it is a trap to lure us to highly controversial windows 10. Hopefully Vulkan will get more traction and make non-windows gaming serious alternative.

I'm 93% sure that the only reason Directx12 was introduced was to push Win10.

I loved GTA V.You cannot expect great writing from something like GTA.

Get over it people, low level APIs where made for consoles not high end desktop rigs.
Running "the driver stuff" on multiple threads only makes sense if your core is too weak to run the driver as a single thread. (like in the ~1Ghz console cores)
or if you have a low core count and the driver has to share a core with some other high usage thread.
Looking at benchmarks with monster PCs will always be a disappointment if you want to see Dx12 benefits.
You won't see any improvement over Dx11 as long as your CPU is fast enough to drive your GPU.

If OpenGL was superior in every way, it would be used. If Vulkan is superior, it will be used. The truth is, OpenGL has not been superior for many years, so the dev's switched to DirectX. If it falls behind Vulkan, you can expect dev's to switch.

MS has multiple monopolies and will do everything they can to influence developers to keep using DirectX even if vulkan is better. Money talks!

want dx 12.3? force upgrade to windows 11 Now with more spying!

That's exactly how I felt about IV, the quests were about as exciting as closing your fifth Oblvion gate.

I agree fully. Man I hated GTA IV and only finished it because I felt like I had to after blowing $60 on it. The only thing I liked about GTA IV were the shows on the dates, especially Ricky Gervais' standup and that Russian variety show. But the control was horrible when driving and Niko Bellic's constant crying was terrible, he was anti Tommy Vercetti. I never bothered with the expansions since I hated the base game so much.

Because I think that game is a trick. I think its a trap. I think it exists only to push new hardware and windows 10 by creating a buzz regarding performance increases under DX12. The game is a sales and marketing tool IMO. I feel we are being tricked.

I'm 93% sure that the only reason Directx12 was introduced was to push Win10.

Of course. Mantle worked just fine under Widows 8.1 right? If Mantle worked under 8.1, and DX12 is a mantle ripoff, then why must someone use windows 10 to use DX12? Oh, that's right. Its because Microsoft wants you to jump on their latest monopoly driven OS.
Mantle was seen as a threat and it was murdered and replaced with a ripoff version. Now if you want the benefits of Mantle, you must use DX12 and windows 10. DX12 games will only run properly on new hardware. DX12 games will only run on windows 10. And of course, DX12 games will only run on the DX12 API. Soon they will be DX12 only so you will be forced to use windows 10, use DX12, use new expensive mid range hardware etc etc.
This really is a trap.

That's why I trash AOTS, DX12 and Nvidia.

Its also why I praise the hell out of DOOM. DOOM is badass and the best thing about DOOM is that gamers can actually play DOOM and have a good DOOM experience. DOOM DOOM DOOM.

Doom is a linear FPS. It doesn't have to run thousands of AI at once.

OMG look at this palindromic masterpiece.

Improve your MOOD by playing DOOM. I'm in a DOOMMOOD right now. I will remain in a DOOMMOOD until DOOM II. I will then be in a DOOMIIMOOD.

Omg that was so epic.
