Overrated. So you learn Dvorak, what do you do when you use someone else's Qwerty keyboard?

I think I'd have a hard time switching back and forth since I don't really "think" about which keys I'm hitting when I type.

It's supposed to be faster. The qwerty keyboard was designed to prevent jamming of keys on typewriters. So common letters are spread out.

Eh. If it's possible to sustain 100WPM+ using QWERTY, whats the point of switching to an entirely new system? I bet it'll take much longer to master Dvorak then it would to improve your QWERTY skills, OP.

From what I have read it takes a lot less time to learn than QWERTY, I hope that after a month I will be back up to my usual speed, and soon after I will improve. Right now I'm just getting used to the layout, and it does make much more sense. Words seem more flowing rather than random, and my fingers stay on home row more often. And its not as if once I learn DVORAK I will forget QWERTY, most people who use DVORAK are also very capable in QWERTY.

I just wish DVORAK keyboards weren't so expensive :(

I should probably mention that I'm just using a QWERTY keyboard, but I changed the language to DVORAK in windows. I have a printed copy of the DVORAK layout taped to the top of my monitor. Supposedly this is better, as it prevents the old hunt-and-peck method.

Uh... what? Can't you just change your keyboard layout? It doesn't matter what the layout of the actual keys is. And if it does, you can move the keys.

You need that Russian-designed keyboard that has OLED displays on each key, so you can change the letters on the keyboard without hassle (other than having to spend a ton of money on something that doesn't exist yet). ;)

If anything you should learn left hand only dvorak so you can type and operate a mouse at the same time. Unless you're a stenographer or some other job that requires really rapid typing learning full dvorak really isn't that useful given the pains

not worth it. why do you need to type that fast anyways, and at the cost of losing your ability to use normal kb's without confusion:p either u im like crazy, or u are a freakin genius that can code at 100wpm...useless and doubtful
