Sorry to hear of your issues. I think I use Handbrake, and DvdFab. I'm not sure. I very seldom rip DVDs, and when I do it's like the first time, every time. I have to relearn what to use, and hunt it down.

if you want to go DVD to DVD (disk) then just use good ole DVDShrink. Still works perfectly fine.

Also, wrong forum.

Sorry to hear about your family troubles. :( But yeah, definitely wrong forum and pretty dodgy subject for here.

Really sorry to hear about your troubles. My wife and I split last year for six months and it was hard on both of us, but necessary and now we are back together and happy.

Anyway, DVDShrink is probably the easiest, but just so you are informed...It's only legal to copy the DVDs you own if you are doing so for a backup in case the original fails. It's illegal if the copy is being used at the same time you are still using the original.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time, just trying to inform. Good luck with your situation.

I doubt he will be watching kids movies at the same time they are.

i gotta ask...

if they are kids movies, why don't you just give them to the kids? not like you are going to watch them yourself ... OR ARE YOU??

You misunderstand. He essentially needs two legit copies of the movie, but only has one. Weather the movies are physically in a DVD player being watched is irrelevant. DVDs and software can only be copied to backup the original in case it fails. You can't use the copy in any way while the original is still functional.

2 houses. why take the risk of forgetting one or moving them back and forth? they are only going to be watched by the kids.

and..yes i will watch rolie polie olie..baby bot chase is great! :D actually its not bad..

sigh. see years ago this was totally legal. no question about it. but fucking goverment made it such a grey area people are afraid to do it.

i'm not going to be ripping DVD's i don't own. I'm not going to be getting movies out of redbox or netflix to copy. I just want to copy the kids movies wich we legally own so they have a copy at both sets of parents.

I use dvd drypter and gordian knot. There is a very good revision3 video about how to do this. takes about 40-50 mins for the encoding per movie for me.

Legal != moral. Who cares what the law says. You do what's right, and you won't have worries from anyone that matters.

I grew up mormon. i fallow the law.

but i have to admit some of the recent laws are wrong and unjust. I DO NOT STEAL. but i do think a person should be legally able to make backups of movies, CD's, games etc.

I have no issue (morally) of putting my daughters DS, GBA games on a R4 card. none. i have the legal games sitting in my DSi case.

I also have no moral issues with backing up a DVD so there are copies here and at my wife's (not divorced yet).

..though i do feel guilty doing it..heh

DVDDecrypter -> DVDShrink (if you are not using DL media) -> Nero (or any other burner)

It's either legal or it isnt. Fair use gives him the right to do this IIRC as long as only either the copy or the original is in use at any point in time. I'd think it is ok to do it personally since the movies are still only owned by the kids.

I don't think you can break encryption for any reason according to the law.
