I don't think you can break encryption for any reason according to the law.

In the US there are exceptions to the breaking encryption law. For example, education purposes.


To me, so long as he isn't sharing it with the world, I have no problem with copying a dvd for myself.

DMCA says you Amerikanzys cannot circumvent copy protection, so ripping DVDs is illegal.

So waggy, drive over to Canada and rip them :p

As said, DVD shrink is the easiest way (IMO). If you have 2 drives, 1 to read 1 to write, then it's even easier and faster. Google dvdshrink, download and go. It's pretty user friendly and well laid out.

It's illegal to circumvent the copyright protection on those DVDs. Your kids are probably suffering enough with the divorce, do you want them to be ashamed of their delinquent father as well?
