Dvd player (amazon) for $39.99

It has coax digital out, not optical. But it does have component video out (which looks pretty nice, I might add). Having worked for Wal-Mart, I got this player in store for $44.61 ($49.67 - 10%), and made it region-free with ease... I'm quite pleased with it.
I also have an Apex AD-1100W, which has a very similar case, but the Norcent definitely seems to be more sturdy.

You have/had DVDs that were unplayable on an Apex? I've not heard of such a thing.

I believe my Apex 1200 doesn't play VCDs. That and it has terrible QC - it loses color every once in a while and sometimes it can't even differentiate between my cds and dvds.

My apex1200 has done nothng but crash.

The Norcent DP-300 is really cool..no frills..no bells and whistles...but a real workhorse when it comes to playing just about anything you throw at it...VCD, SVCD, MP3, CD..name it and it plays...super easy to region hack..gets a little warm but not hot enough to make a toast like the Apexes...way, way better than the Apex..you wont regret it if you get one..the only grouse I have is the lack of a display..but its something that you get used to even though a step backwards..sturdy, great unit..can't praise it enough.

Even though the back of the unit says 120V, I have confirmed from Customer Service that the PS is indeed capable of handling worldwide voltage and auto switches. also, customer service seems reponsive cos I had two questions each answered in less than a day.

I have an Apex 1200, nice little machine, though I did buy the warranty on it at CC, and I have replaced twice, so it was worth the extra ten bucks.
