In case anyone is interested, I was at Sam's Club today and they had the Toshiba SD-K625 5-disc changer on clearance for $75.00. Still over $100 on their site. It is supposedly region free out of the box from what I have read. As with most B&M deals, YMMV.

looks nice. On a related note I picked up the mintek 1600 at BB for $50 and am very satisified with it.

I just goy my Norcent player the other day. It's played every homemade thing I've thrown into it so far. For the price you can't beat it.

I bought this for my daughter about 3 weeks ago from Walmart. It plays everything you throw at it. Works perfect and looks just fine. A great deal.

Does this one overheat? My Apex AD-1200 gets really hot...kinda scary.

This also has component out which is nice. Anyone know how much shipping is since it doesnt qualify for Free Super Saver Shipping.

These are the same types than sell you RAM to improve your internet connection. It's really pretty hard to buy a bad DVD player these days.

I own this DP-300 and LOVE it! Plays everything - VCD 2.0, SVCD, 1x (cheapo) Kypermedia DVD-R, Sony DVD+R, Fuji +RW...AND mpegs burned to CD-R (not burned as VCD). Remote nice too. Bought from Wally World for $59 shipped. Region-free hacked :)

I have to say that this is WAY WAY WAY better than the Apex. I went through 2 of the Apex series (1110 and 1200) and had issues with both. Their quality control is terrible. Then I bought the Norcent for 49.99 at Walmart and loved it ever since.

In my opinion they all need a better way of cooling because their chips don't have heatsinks and only air inlets at the bottom but nothing at the top for the hot air to escape but I'm not brave enough to start cutting holes in my case although I have added heatsinks to the chips that got really hot.

The other perk about the Norcent that I received was that it didn't have a label keeping me from opening it. You know, the "tampering with this device voids the warranty label" which is placed over the 2 parts that need to be separated.

It has played DVDs that the Apex couldn't. Great buy

You have/had DVDs that were unplayable on an Apex? I've not heard of such a thing.

I believe my Apex 1200 doesn't play VCDs. That and it has terrible QC - it loses color every once in a while and sometimes it can't even differentiate between my cds and dvds.

Gotcha. I've got one of the 'original' 600 series and I love it, but I've looked at some of the newer, smaller, no-display versions and they do seem kinda chincy.
