What is the difference? Which is better? I am looking to build a system and am not sure what CPU to use. I see the Duron is cheaper, does that mean the thunderbird is better?
From what I've heard, the Thunderbird is about 5% - 10% better than the Duron.. The thing to do would be to buy a Duron 600MHz for about $50 and then overclock it to at least 900MHz (assuming that you're able to do this)..
the duron has less cache, resulting in slower performance, but only about 5-10% performance loss compared to the tbird, so i'll be quite worth your money.
on the price/performance ratio, Duron is definitely the way to go. duron 600/700 are idea for overclocking, since the d600 will often get you around 900 if not 1ghz with proper cooling, and it only costs around $60! what else can you ask for? this is a bargain. the higher clocked cpu that you buy, the less price/performance ration you get, but it will likely get you a higher clock speed.
