<< I tried everything I could think of.. including using the onboard C-media with a fresh install of XP instead of the Creative. I still crashed. From what I saw off some of the DS boards, there is a problem with XP, Via chipset MB, Gforce cards and SB Live when they are all combined. >>

I have xp
I dont have a via chipset
I dont have a geforce
I have sblive
two out of four is not bad, so I hope this explains it, now where is my damn patch :p

bunker,
I used to have it at 750mhz and had been running at that speed for .. almost forever, I tried turning it down to 700mhz and nothing changed:(. I might try running it at original speed when I get home

I'm playing at 1280 X 1024 with all the options maxxed and still get 40fps.

Here is my system:
Intel 1.6a at 2.2ghz
512MB RAM
Geforce2 GTS w/ 32MB
IBM 60GXP Harddrive

by the way, for those wondering how to run the game at 1280 X 1024 or anything higher, it's real easy. you just need to edit the dungeon siege *.ini file in your save game directory. You do this by going to My Documents where you will find the Dungeon Siege save game directory. Go in the directory and you will find the *.ini file. Just open it and you will see your current resolution. Just change it to something higher and that's it. Enjoy!

There are many compatibility problems with winxp. all of em are graphics related. this does not affect everyone who uses XP, but there are thousands of people reporting errors across all hardware configurations from P4s to athalons, from radeons to geforces and everything inbetween. from reading many message boards I have found the majority of people having problems with crashes in dungeon siege are running win xp.

I also receive alot of crashes with this game, as well as alot of crashes in general with XP. am running this game on win2k without a problem

I knwo this doesnt help or provide a solution. Im just relating my findings. Suposedly MS is working on fixes for both this game in particular and the general problems between graphics hardware and XP.

there are reports of this problem in win2k as well but nowhere near the numbers XP has.

Microsoft publishes a game that dosent work well with thier new oS?...lol

For the frame rate I found something that helps in dungeon levels by about 20 frames a sec! add " vsync=false" to the target line on your shortcut! For some reason this made a big difference in dungeons and not outdoors......

Rock solid:

1700+ @1640
EPoX 8KHA+
VisionTek GF3
SBLive Plat
512 PC2400
Win XP with latest drivers

Never had a problem with flickering, crashes or anything.

I can't stop playing this game! Sure it's repetitive, semi-mindless and my mule always dies, but I can't stop playing it! :)

My systems runs rock stable at 2000+ speeds for EVERYTHING except for Dungeon Siege. I have to run at 1900+ speeds for it not to crash after like 20 secs. After I clock it down the game runs like a champ. Only get max FPS of like 40 though, but it sounds like everyone is effected by this. Looks good at poor frame rates though. :)

Running: 1800+
Radeon 8500
Epox 8kha+
Game Theatre XP
Win XP pro

I love the game when it works, but it crashes about every 2 hours or so. After reading a few sites devoted to this game, I agree with travler. The question now is how soon will it be before we see a patch?

The only time the game crashes on me is when I try to exit out of ZoneMatch. I have yet to try multiplayer for this game, I can't figure out what ports I need to open up on my router. Maybe I'll just put my comp in the DMZ. I dont have time to play multiplayer right now anyways. I'm runnin this on a p3-850, voodoo5 5500, win2k.

I think I sortof found out what my problem is

in event viewer I found this bug
AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address (0x4d1), which lies in the 0x4d0 - 0x4d1 protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

what in the world could this mean?

I've seen that before, it a bios problem. See if your motherboard company has a upgrade for your bios.

Yo,
Running Dungeon Siege on a W2K box... I'm in the swamps, around where you can pick up Andiemus and buy potions... Typically pull in the 19-26 FPS in the swamps. Resolution is 1024X768X32 @ 85 Mhz.

FPS seems low, considering the horsepower of my rig. Yes, I'm running the latest patches and drivers.

On my old rig, would lock up after 2ish hours... think it was heat related. When I took off the side panel, it stopped the lock ups.

Well after hours of playtime I am attempting to enter some cave where the bandits hang out but cannot because of some exception handling error message. I then get kicked out. I thought first it was just when I was trying to save right before entering the cave. Now it does it during battle or just collecting loot off the ground. Don't see anything on the dungeon Siege site about this exception handling error. Anyone else getting it?

go to my documents
rename the current dungeon siege directory to something else
start the game
exit the game
copy the save games from your old directory to your new one

game works again :)

Thanks Czar!
Second problem that has cropped up. Exiting Zonematch, or whatever the online battlenet type service is called, will crash my computer with a nasty blue screen.

Any ideas? (next time it happens I will write down the exact message, however a guy above me has the same problem.)

Hmm, I'm near the end of the game, and I have never had a crash. I Alt-Tab the game all the time when it lets me. I'm running Win2000 with 1024M Ram and a G400Max.
