I just got the game today, and it's crashed on me 3 times already.:| That's why I'm here now. We can't be the only ones though.

Only crashes I saw were related to screensavers, and power management.

Also, make sure you have installed:
The most recent "official" driver for your vid and sound cards
The most recent DirectX release for your OS

BTW: Dungeon Siege is the shiznit, no doubt. Haven't been able to put the demo down. Just got to the end...now I'm plannin a purchase!

I have had zero crashes since I started playing it. What is the exact nature of the error? I'd start by upgrading the vid card drivers.

Visiontek 4600 Ti

The only crashes I had were fatal exception errors due to the fact that I only quasi-paused the game (I hit escape) and let it sit for about 45 minutes. That corrupted my save game file.

My specs

Athlon 550mhz@700mhz
MSI6167
256mb SDRAM
Matrox G400
and some more crap

I'm running XP with the most recent video card drivers.

Nature of the error, it just happens and I get a blue screen with some text and then a reboot. There is nothing specific about what I'm doing, it just happens.

I managed to squese out a total of 1 hour and 40-50 minutes of gameplay.

Czar, try going into your task manager and killing everything you don't need. I haven't had a single problem with it on two different comps, but I'm using win2k.

It's under your "My Documents" folder. You should see a folder in there called "Dungeon Siege", just copy the entire folder and backup to disk or cd.

I'v tried that and it didnt change anything. I'm starting to think that I have some faulty hardware:|, going to rip something out before I play it the next time

In 60+ hours of gametime on WinXP, I only got 3 crashes. I'd get a "Fatal Exception Error" pop-up and then get kicked back to the desktop. Restarting the game without even a reboot got me back to my most recent save with no problems.
Nothing harsh like that reboot mentioned earlier.
It sucks that some of you are having trouble squeezing even an hour out of the game :(

The first couple weeks I played DS I crashed at random after a bout 30 to 60 minutes.

My System:

Athlon 1.4ghz
Iwill K266
Creative SB Live Plat 5.1
Gforce2 GTS 64mb
512mb

All running on Win XP pro.

I tried everything I could think of.. including using the onboard C-media with a fresh install of XP instead of the Creative. I still crashed. From what I saw off some of the DS boards, there is a problem with XP, Via chipset MB, Gforce cards and SB Live when they are all combined.

I tried old drivers.. native XP drivers.. and new drivers. No luck. The one thing I didnt try was a Forced ACPI install of XP. It's possible that the way XP handles it's resource allocation with ACPI and that combination of hardware is the problem.

I fixed it by doing a clean install of XP with an ATI Radeon All in Wonder. Game plays fine with no crashes now.

As does Freedom Force, which had all the same symptoms that Dungeon Siege did.

I've had zero crashes with it so far and I've had it for about two weeks I think. Even at lans the people that I play with haven't had crashes except this guy that has some major problems on his comp.

Hey czar, just noticed your rig is oc'ed. Try cranking it down a notch or two and see if that helps.

Yeah, I was getting 30-40FPS at the beginning of the game. The level designs and textures must get more complex later in the game because at the end I was getting 10-20FPS! :Q

1024 x 768 with everything turned up except with bilinear filtering instead of tri. I think I just need a (excuse for) new video card instead of a patch ;)
