terrists wear scarves around their neck?

The black and white kaffiyeh is often associated with Yasser Arafat's terrorist groups as well as the Al-Aqsa Martyrs brigade.

Shouldn't we be more concerned that they tend to wear AK47s and high-powered explosives than scarves? This "controversy" is nothing more than some chick trolling for hits on her blog.

fixed.

Terrorists are so fashionable these days.

What would your reaction be if she were wearing a swastika shirt as a fashion item? Or a Che tshirt?

Plus she insulted The Oprah. You cannot insult The Oprah.

she did!? ohh not good. suprising Oprah's team of elite ninja's haven't killed her yet.

The big thing about that is Oprah really helped her out in many ways. She helped her get her talk show, sell tons of stuff... the list goes on. For her to lash out and said what she did about her "mentor" is not right... not even because of Oprah being who she is.

What's the story behind this?

She made some rather racist comments about Oprah, and if my memory serves me, other comments were made in public as well.
It was in a "rag mag" but I will try and find it.

I guess the more you know, the more often you are offended.

Not that that's any argument for staying ignorant.

People should be more careful with symbolic moves. This is why I don't wear my ski mask out around town. Tantamount to branding yourself as a threat.

I don't get it. She's wearing a black and white scarf. Doesn't even look remotely like the ones the crazy guys wear. I thought the terrorists just wrapped whatever they could get their hands on around their faces to hide their identities? Every picture I've seen of them it's pretty much a hodge podge of scarves.
I understand Dunkin Donuts thinking though. It's easier for them to just kill the ad then to deal with the frivolous law suit which will end up costing them tons of money.

You assume they didn't. Oprah's ninjas are so good and stealth that even Rachael Ray doesn't know she's dead yet.

she's not even Rachel Ray, anymore.

P&N makes Baby Larry cry.................

You guys are making a mountain out of a molehill about a right-wing blogger who made a mountain out of a molehill.

The fact that a black-and-white kaffiyeh is a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian Liberation movement is pretty well documented. Don't believe me? Read up on it straight from the ultra-conservative Party for Socialism and Liberation Magazine website.

Now someone who knows this might be apt to wonder when they see a celebrity wearing a black-and-white kaffiyeh if that celebrity just isn't aware of the symbolism associated with it (namely, support of acts of terrorism against Jewish people in the name of liberating Palestine), or if they are aware and it was chosen to show support of the Palestinian Liberation movement. In any case, it's not an unreasonable question to ask.

It just so happens, however, that what Rachael Ray was wearing wearing in the ad was simply a black-and-white paisley scarf which only bears a passing resemblance to the black-and-white kaffiyeh, and was selected by a fashion designer with no knowledge of the symbolism of the kaffiyeg, so this shouldn't have been an issue in the first place, and it's not an issue that Dunkin Donuts canceled the ad to avoid any potential association with such a hot-button issue .

I'm not going to use her recipes anymore. Next time she'll probably wear a bomber's vest. She's gotten too political.

I think that's an apples to oranges comparison. Living in NYC, almost a quarter of all the women in SOHO were wearing those scarves. It's sold at almost every street corner vendor in the area (in different colors). I also see a Che t-shirt every once in a while. I never see anyone wearing a swastika. The meaning of any symbol is diluted when it becomes mainstream.

I'm not convinced scarves equal swastikas. They are worn every day by hundreds of millions of peace-loving people (including many of our troops) for a completely practical purpose.

I fully expect to see more fake issues like this being manufactured by republicans in the next several months. Understandable since they're so out of touch they'd get killed discussing any real issues.
