haha, ate there last night with some friends. place is expensive. :Q

Did you make them yourself or did you go to your local costco to buy some frozen ones?

Those are dumplings? They look more like xiao long bao (little dragon buns)

They are xiao long bao, I just used "dumplings" for the sake of easy-to-understand-ness.

BTW, would shredded scallop be an appropriate "dumpling" filling?

I had plenty of those last month.

The best were some pork dumplings where the dumpling was more like a biscuit. DAMN was that one good and juicy!!

One is special, there other isn't ;)

They call it soup dumpling, I call it dragon ball :) hahaha

Man theres no din tai fung in ny.... they come once a while and you need to make reservation.... in taiwan, they make it fresh right in front of you and give you a lot of ultra fine shredded ginger... like so fricken much.. and it's a bit more than outside but much cheaper than prices here..

looks like the taiwan ones are much better...

actually, they make crystal dumplings, that look just like that.

the difference is that these dumplings have special sauce liquids inside the dumpling, and they taste better. But be careful, you might burn your mouth if you eat them hot.

I personally like regular dumplings better.

oh, the ginger, vinegar, soy sauce is da bomb!!!! :p

completely different

but dumplings = "jiao zi" right? and wonton is pretty much the southern equivalent of that, and the cantonese have their own version of it. sure the fillings and the wrapping used are different ;), but the concept is pretty much the same and they taste similar to me too, especially since you can pretty much use any fillings in them (maybe not for the cantonese type)
