Yeah, I'm about as dumbfounded as you are on this.

What's next? All the paper used to make the books were made out of the pulp of dead presidents?

I think she is going to lose alot of readership with that.

I can already see the parent's burning copies of the books and destroying dvds.

It will also open up banning the books from many schools that do not alot texts that promote alternative lifestyles.

10-20-2007.K. Rowling outs Hogwarts character

NEW YORK - Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay. J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall.

Rowling told the audience that while working on the planned sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," she spotted a reference in the script to a girl who once was of interest to Dumbledore.

A note was duly passed to director David Yates, revealing the truth about her character.
========================================================

Now it will be interesting to see if Potter is banned in the U.S.

Because, like Iran, we do not have homosexuals in the USA, and we keep it that way. No talk shows hosted by openly gay people, no gay characters in popular TV shows or movies, etc...

you don't get out much... do you? Examples:
6 Feet Under
Sin City
Mulholland Dr.
V for Vendetta
Pretty Persuasion
Queer as Folk
Happy Endings
Veronica Mars

These are just films/TV shows I've seen. I'm sure you could search and find many many more.

Last I checked the play Rent and movie Brokeback Mountain were pretty much right up there with gay characters being leads.

Brokeback Mountain is a movie in a different league. I mean....I fell asleep about 10 minutes through because I really didn't care about two gay cowboys out in the middle of no where.

I guess some people thought gay cowboys were really aliens trying to brainwash the all mighty catholics.

This sounds like something fabricated as an afterthought to promote an agenda. It might be a worthy agenda, but it seems a little forced and disingenuous. I wonder if she would have revealed this at the outset of the series, before she made her money.

It's not just something she came out and said; it was required in order to stop the director from making a mistake with the 6th movie.

Although from what I understand, it isn't exactly as though there hasn't been a large number of inaccuracies in the films. :p

Now that the books are over and everyone knows the ending she's trying to keep people interested. There's nothing in the books or movies to indicate what part of his sexual preference would mean anything. It's useless information afterwards that nobody cares about.

only now they have ammo to get schools to pull the book and create a frenzy about it.

I don't agree with it, but it doesn't take much.

why the hell would the book having a gay man in it make it unsuitable to be in a library?
