recently we've been hit pretty hard by heatwave and power-shortage.. ads are all over freeway and television about conserving energy. 'Flex your power' anyone?

what do I see on my way to gym today at 2pm? a outside hallway that has 40 lights on.. that's at when a freaking sun is shining like heck.

they want to repair a small leak yet they ignore the big hole right on their front yard. we need to pass law to limit lighting usage and ban unneccessary usage in daylight time.

No, what they need to do is get the stick out of their ass regarding having power plants in the state.
Though it's people like you who always want more bans and bs legislation that make California look like a bunch of jackass commies.

I'm sure the governor decided that we would have record-breaking heat, breaking daily records as well as consecutive days past 100.

How the fvck is he supposed to control when they decide to turn on lights at a gym. Why don't you go talk to management instead of wasting power on a computer if you're so concerned.

Could not have said it better.

The only dumb Governor was Gray Davis, who locked us into sky high electrical rates.

don't forget the wonderful car fees ;) those were my favorite.

but as to the op - is he complaining about the gym having lights on at their outdoor hallway or was it a public space? I'm not sure what his beef with the gov't is.

He's bitching about stuff like a typical liberal fool. Whenever you see something you don't like, you should expect to government to make a law to control or ban it.

Disclaimer: I don't intend to turn this into some partisan flamefest.

SampSon, you 'tard. You make a partisan insult then claim innocence with "i don't want to turn this into a flamefest". Typical dimwitted conservative doublespeak.

Disclaimer: I don't intend to turn this into some parisan flamefest either.

So you're cool with flag burning?
Or abortions?
Or legalizing drugs?

Sweet! Conservatives don't want to make laws to control or ban anything!

Yah!

Ps. I'm not a conservative. So now can you address the point of my post instead of attacking me? Can you think of any other reason why the OP would say something as dumb as this? Yes, a ban on daytime usage of lighting and law limiting the usage of lighting, ingenious! Let's just forget the states policies on limiting in-state power generation facilities, because we can just legislate our way out of a problem! Didn't think so ya dope smoking hippie.

I wonder how much power they could save if they turned on the internet in CA and made people turn off private PCs.

Maybe turn ISPs back on after peak hours.

Everyone blames Gray Davis for the problem that was caused by Pete Wilson and his energy company buddies. Remember "De-Regulation"? We were promised lower electrical rates, the opportunity to buy power from whatever sources we wanted to, and none of that came true. Instead, the power companies realized it wasn't going to work the way they had promised, so they got the courts to stop the consumer from buying power from anyone but their regular provider. The Enron debacle and faked power shortages of 2000/2001 were not caused because we were low on power supplies, but rather staged events to drive up prices, since it was no longer regulated. Davis did what he could in negotiating power deals, which at the time seemed high, but by today's standards, the prices he got are pretty low, considering the current market...
Want to blame someone for that bullsh*t? Blame Pete Wilson, PG&E, and SDG&E.
BTW, Davis rammed thru legislation "fast tracking" the building of power plants here, and we now have something like a dozen new plants generating electricity since those "rolling black-out" days...
We are still short on supply on days like we've had lately, and part of the problem is in transmission capacity. Not enough transmission lines to bring low cost power into the state. It hits bottlenecks in the system, which stops the increased flow...We need more transmission lines built to handle the increased demand. New server farms suck up a LOT of power. Should they be required to build their own dedicated co-gens to feed them, freeing up tons of megawatts for the general public?
NO? didn't think too many would like that idea...

You whine about getting attacked after attacking the OP. Ha. The simple fact is that in some cases legislation does limit stupidity. Example: seat belts. But in Sampson's world we can't pass any laws. Oh, no laws don't solve problems. Let's all just drive on whatever side of the road we please and hope for the best. Nope. No laws whatsoever.

Silly sampson.

WTF are you talking about? everyone is on the same grid. just because you live in a cave with your head in the sand doesn't mean we aren't in a power crisis. they haven't had to do rolling blackouts yet because businesses are shutting off their lights, A/C's, etc.

i did have to laugh at my company, though. we turned off all the lights to save energy, which is great and all, but here are like 25-50 computers all chugging away with nobody on them, screens showing the all-important "Windows XP" logo, burning way more energy than the flourescents. and of course the A/C is blasting like crazy. i put a bunch of the computers to sleep when nobody was looking.

I saw the signs Monday and the OP missed the irony. They are burning lights to tell you to save energy.

And heres another
WTF, screw all of this nonsense. We all should propose a bill to make southern californians not pay tax to newegg.com. You see other people in florida getting nice deals off of newegg such as $300 mobos, $600 cpus, $200 ram, etc. When they have their rigs assembled, it costs them $3000. Your average californian h as to pay $3247.50 + Shipping, omfgwtf? They should also get rid of that monitor recycling fee. I purchased this monitor (tyris 19") that was supposed to cost $170 AR. With all the taxes and fees shoved up my ass, it was $210 AR, again, omfgwtf! If this travesty, this injustice, this utter racism continues, then I will have to choose to improve the economy in buttfuck, georgia, by purchasing from monarchcomputer.com instead of newegg.com, instead of buy.com, and instead of zipzoomfly.com. As long as the government wants to impose these unjust, gestapoesque tariffs, then I see no reason why I should support the californian economy. Buttfuck, Georgia's economy + monarchcomputer.com FTW! Schwarrzennneggerr, as long as you continue controlling "private" industries by taxing monitors with a ginormous, gigantic, humongous, "recycling fee" to aid in the funding of your wehrmacht, then illegal immigrants will compare you to hitler. "Senoro Jarnaldo estoy muy fascisimiso, con el la migra y minuto meno".
Rough Translation(but offers a general idea): I want chicken mc nuggets, preferably, from mc donalds. I hear the chicken mc nuggets at burger king are not actually in nugget form, but are barbequed tenders. However, if I were offered Mc nugget chicken selects, I would go with those because they come with ranch sauce. I would rather have chicken mc nugget premium selects with ranch sauce than chicken mc nuggets with regular barbeque sauce. I would also like a coke and supersized french fries. Oh wait, they stopped selling super sized french fries? Damn that morgan spurlock, damn him to hell!
