wv gets style points. they have yet to allow a team they should be dominating hang with them until time expires. USC has both the last two weeks.
The key is that USC won. And USC played a much tougher schedule. Think about Ohio State when they won their last championship - they were losing in about half of their games with a minute or so left. A good team pulls out the win in a tough situation.
i dunno if it's actually much tougher though. the only team that they've played so far that has beaten anyone of consequence is arkansas.

i guess i could do the same and say that the only team ohio state has played that has beaten anyone of consequence is texas.

but one of each doesn't mean USC has had a 'much tougher' schedule. none of the other teams on USC's and OSU's schedule are all that great. i'd say iowa is probably better than nebraska, but i'm not sure of it. give them 10 games iowa probably wins 6.

we beat FSU when they were #9. we have scored over 50 points in 3 games this year.

i don't like this 'when they were' stuff. FSU is a middle of the pack football team at best this year. it's like when goalposts came down when texas went 4-7 in 1997. oh boy you beat a crappy football team!

People here don't give USC credit because they all think that the PAC-10 is weak. The truth is that it isn't. USC will probably wind up with one of the five toughest schedules in the nation. USC is going to have their tests against Notre Dame and California.
as i just explained, USC has only played 1 team who has beaten anyone else this year. until they beat oregon, cal, and notre lame, their schedule isn't really any more difficult than anyone else's.

yeah i agree FSU sucks but we'll show everyone how good we are when we play GA Tech next Saturday.

How did Ohio State lose 5 win rating points since last week ?

btw, Ohio State has played a more difficult schedule than USC, and won more handily, imo.
A lot of teams lost ~5 points (look at Florida, Michigan, Boise St, etc, the undefeateds almost all lost ~5). The points are scaled so that the bottom team gets a 0 score. The bottom team moved up 5 points. Thus, all other teams were scaled down by ~5. It wasn't Ohio State that moved, but it was Eastern Michigan that moved.

USC, on the other hand, didn't lose the ~5 points. I can't quite explain it. But USC has a much harder schedule so far than any other top team. Ohio State included. Don't just take my word though. Sagarin also says that USC's schedule was much tougher.

I don't see USC's schedule any tougher, so far.

Iowa > Arkansas
Texas > Nebraska
Penn St = Washington (imo, plus Ohio State really beat Penn St, USC got lucky)
other games played so far are victories of little value in rating.

as far as Sagarin's schedule rating, what matters is games against top teams, his rating gives too much weight to average teams, and therefore too little weight to top rated teams.

Ohio State's and Florida's victories over currently ranked top 10 teams are much more significant than USC beating the 21st ranked team, as their 4th best opponent, which is the game giving them a higher schedule strength rating.

Still seems a little stacked toward the PAC-10.

Almost every rating system that I've seen has the PAC-10 the top conference this year.

I'd disagree with all those rating systems (which ones BTW?)

Actually, I'll hold off on judgment until USC plays Notre Dame.

Still, I wouldn't mind such a result come the bowls...

I think OSU's win over texas trumps all of USC's wins, and Florida's schedule is tougher than USC's. Urban Meyer is a god and will win a championship within the next four years.

Yeah, but Wake Forest gave that fvcking ballgame away.

You can't deny that.

Clemson basically struggled the entire game until Wake decided to fvck up a FG attempt in the worst possible way.
