A little better this week but Boise St.?? Also having Oregon ahead of Texas is crazy. Still seems a little stacked toward the PAC-10. I do like seeing UT so high up there though 😀

What can I say? A couple years ago, people at ATOT complained and wanted me to give more credit to lossless teams. Now a lossless Boise St. is #5 in one rating and I get complaints. I can't please everyone. The adjustment I made is that all teams get -1 point for each loss. That -1 point put Tennessee, California, and Notre Dame below Boise St.

As for Oregon being 0.2 points ahead of Texas, it really isn't that bad. The score rating has Texas WAY ahead of Oregon.

seems like the win rating is a little puffed up at the moment. score rating seems more accurate. (although i've dropped USC out of my personal top 5 for the moment).

i think florida is a bit overrated. LSU isn't that good of a team. their offense is horrendous. and their defense isn't that great either (turns out auburn just has a craptacular offense, itself). and florida didn't beat them by that much at their own place. one thing is for sure, auburn is going to be out for blood this week.

Hey, you put it out there and I'm just giving my ideas. 😉 I think it's a pretty good poll and it looks like it has the ability to make large corrections from week to week, unlike the human ones. Believe me, after hiding in shame last year I'm glad to be able to discuss CFB again.

I kinda agree w/ the weight of an undefeated record, it should also be weighed against the competition. I would view Tenn. (the team I know best), Tex, Cal, etc all better at 1-loss than a Boise w/ none. Just my $.02 but keep it up

Also notice Miami too LOL. Agreed on OSU, they look good this year but it will all come down to the Mich game for them.

What is the complaint with USC?
[*]They beat 4-1 Arkansas and Arkansas beat Alabama and Auburn.
[*]They beat 5-1 Nebraska (although Nebraska hasn't beaten anyone good yet).
[*]They beat 4-2 Washington (who's only other loss was to a good Oklahoma team).
[*]They beat 4-2 Washington St (who's only other loss was to a good Auburn team).

So far, USC has had a very difficult schedule and has given two good teams their only loss. So why shouldn't USC be in the top 5?

i think there are 5 teams that are better than USC.

ohio state
florida
michigan
wv
texas

washington stood a decent chance of beating them on their own turf if they had their 3 seconds back. washington hasn't beaten anyone. neither has nebraska. usc looks very vulnerable, and i think they're going to lose to either oregon or cal, if not both. they might lose to notre dame to boot.

i wonder what odds vegas is giving that USC loses 2 of those 3 games?

as for arkansas, that was the biggest trap game auburn had on its schedule. no, i don't think they have any offense, but the way they got completely outplayed tells me that they were looking ahead big time.

alabama was trailing to duke.

re: washington state, i think your definition of good and mine are different. wazzou let auburn's craptacular offense roll up more points against them than buffalo did.

no way wv is better than USC, i would agree besides osu, florida, michigan look a bit stronger at this point, but Louisville and wv havent beaten a good team as yet.

dude, no way clemson is #19. #12 in every other poll in the country, making us the top ranked ACC team. we were down 17-3 and came back with 24 unanswered points in the 4th quarter, against undefeated wake forest (they hadn't played anyone though) this past weekend and our only loss is to BC by 1 point.

Is that really your argument, Wake Forest???

Whose to say they aren't actually fairly good?

The fact that you have USC as #1 is pretty weak.

Ohio State, yes. They've beaten both #2 Texas and #13 Iowa by considerable margins, #24 Penn State too. Florida, yes. They've beaten both #11 Tennessee and #9 LSU.

USC has struggled against both Washington State and Washington the past two weeks, they don't look anywhere near Ohio State or Florida.

05 - Boise St
11 - Louisville
17 - West Virginia

There is obviously something wrong here.

How did Ohio State lose 5 win rating points since last week ?

btw, Ohio State has played a more difficult schedule than USC, and won more handily, imo.

A lot of teams lost ~5 points (look at Florida, Michigan, Boise St, etc, the undefeateds almost all lost ~5). The points are scaled so that the bottom team gets a 0 score. The bottom team moved up 5 points. Thus, all other teams were scaled down by ~5. It wasn't Ohio State that moved, but it was Eastern Michigan that moved.

USC, on the other hand, didn't lose the ~5 points. I can't quite explain it. But USC has a much harder schedule so far than any other top team. Ohio State included. Don't just take my word though. Sagarin also says that USC's schedule was much tougher.

wv gets style points. they have yet to allow a team they should be dominating hang with them until time expires. USC has both the last two weeks.

The key is that USC won. And USC played a much tougher schedule. Think about Ohio State when they won their last championship - they were losing in about half of their games with a minute or so left. A good team pulls out the win in a tough situation.

People here don't give USC credit because they all think that the PAC-10 is weak. The truth is that it isn't. USC will probably wind up with one of the five toughest schedules in the nation. USC is going to have their tests against Notre Dame and California.

dude, no way clemson is #19. #12 in every other poll in the country, making us the top ranked ACC team. we were down 17-3 and came back with 24 unanswered points in the 4th quarter, against undefeated wake forest (they hadn't played anyone though) this past weekend and our only loss is to BC by 1 point.

Is that really your argument, Wake Forest???

we beat FSU when they were #9. we have scored over 50 points in 3 games this year.

i dunno if it's actually much tougher though. the only team that they've played so far that has beaten anyone of consequence is arkansas.

i guess i could do the same and say that the only team ohio state has played that has beaten anyone of consequence is texas.

but one of each doesn't mean USC has had a 'much tougher' schedule. none of the other teams on USC's and OSU's schedule are all that great. i'd say iowa is probably better than nebraska, but i'm not sure of it. give them 10 games iowa probably wins 6.

i don't like this 'when they were' stuff. FSU is a middle of the pack football team at best this year. it's like when goalposts came down when texas went 4-7 in 1997. oh boy you beat a crappy football team!

as i just explained, USC has only played 1 team who has beaten anyone else this year. until they beat oregon, cal, and notre lame, their schedule isn't really any more difficult than anyone else's.

usc did this to some degree in the years it won NC as well, stanford in 04, cal in 04. i guess people are used to seeing it totally dominate teams and dont like the close calls

while that may be the case (and yes, ohio state did it all the time the year they beat miami), until we have a showdown on the field i'm taking the team that is putting away the opponents they should be putting away. of course, that might be dumb because USC now has all this close game experience. or, maybe it just means that USC isn't that much better than the teams it should be (and isn't) dominating. that has to be the more usual case, doesn't it?
