Of course the government can do whatever they want with drones for as long as they want, but as soon as civilians take an interest, they need to be regulated.

A few days before Christmas, coincidence?
Oh, and the aircraft isn't whats being registered, YOU are. Apart from just your name and address, an email, AND CREDIT CARD are required. This info will go into a data base maintained by a private contractor, but don't worry it will be safe,
awwww too bad...hahahahaaaaaa

WOW! I never would have thought someone with the star of David within a heart as an avatar would respond in this manner. So tell me JEDIYoda, who gets to wear the arm band, or the brown shirt this time? Me, for playing with a flying toy, or you trying to fine, or jail me for doing so?
LEST WE FORGET!!!!

Did you really just tell someone to avoid a no-knock warrant because someone said you own something by not owning said thing??? Really?

Hell to avoid getting "SWATed" you shouldn't own, rent or live in a home dammit.

Show me where no knock warrants are mentioned...if you did the crime you should be caught and punished....or am I to believe that you honestly believe that you should be able to hide in your home if you break the law??

"People of my ilk"?? You don't know anything about me to make any judgement. If you cannot see the correlation of a tyrannical government imposing draconian, suppressive laws on it's citizens, then you are blind.
"grow up!", Ha, that's rich. I have grandchildren older than you.
Why don't you show us just where the evil toy drone, helicopter, foam glider, balsa plane, or kite touched you, for you seem to be very afraid of them. Why do you care so much about what someone does for fun in their own back yard?
BTW, the FAA has admitted that this law is underfunded by over 320 million dollars.

Stupid? I guess you know more about aviation than the government agency in charge of it. When hang gliders start selling over a million units a year and people begin flying them over air ports, then the FAA would probably act.

Registration is five dollars every three years and you can own or fly all of the RC craft you want. Tyrannical government not found. Draconian, suppressive law? Nope. All I am hearing is a bunch of whining.
Technology now allows anyone to fly remote craft and the idiots came streaming in to ruin it. Blame the idiots who ruined it for everyone else for the regulation, they are why we can't have nice (or fun) things.

This is what happens when something is made so inexpensive and easy to use that any moron can use it.

And how does requiring people who fly RC aircraft at fields miles away from any airport register with the FAA solve your fears of a drone hitting a commercial plane? This is just a stupid regulation that does nothing but inconvenience RC enthusiasts.

Well on one hand it could possibly lead to more awareness of the rules. I think that a large portion of the idiots flying close to airports simply aren't aware of the danger they are creating. Perhaps the registration process will make them learn about no-fly zones.

As far as the people that know better and do it intentionally, this won't stop a single thing. Even if they made you put the registration number on the outside of the craft, which they are not, no one would be able to read the darn thing anyways. It has to basically crash and be recovered by the authorities or they have to be caught with their controller in hand. As it is now, if they are caught with the controller in their hand they will get the into the same exact trouble as they would have before. If it actually collides with a plane there it's almost guaranteed that the registration number will be destroyed and/or unreadable.

They would have actually made a difference if they required manufacturers to do what DJI is doing.

They have been informed that you are in possession of the equipment to be a sexual predator, AND you are in a van down by the ocean D:
Do the right thing DrDoug, pay the money, give them your credit card, I get yourself put on a list. :D

You could choose to divest yourself of said equipment, however, you will always be on the list, and will still have to pay the tax, FOREVER!
Cuz, they don't have the resources to confirm whether or not you still have your junk.
It has also been discovered that you have provided your child with equipment, so umm, yeah, he'll have to be put on the list too.
