The guy in the plaid shirt throws his cup of beer at this guy, and someone up top in the crowd yells out and points to who did it. So the guy was sort of asking for it. I don't always care for cops who get carried away and abuse their power, but this guy started throwing some serious punches at the cop.

They tazed the crap out of him while he was on the ground cuffed though. I don't agree with tazing someone once they are cuffed and face down.

This is police brutality. They are a gang in themselves. The guy hit him. There are more than 5 cops there. Did the cops really need to start throwing hay makers? 5 people can't restrain one skinny kid?

He threw a beer at the cop, the cop pulled his shirt, and then he punched the cop.

Someone's getting prison time.

I hate cops as much as the next guy, but the kid made two stupid moves in a row: 1) throwing beer at a cop and 2) resisting arrest by throwing punches at a cop.

They were both wrong... I certainly don't take the cops side in this case, though. Is aggressively pulling somebody's shirt and likely taking them down really necessary because of a thrown drink?

Agree with your assessment.

I find it ridiculous that half the people in this thread think that the cop went to start a right, and they missed the fact that the guy threw a beer.

Tazing a guy when he's down and cuffed and surrounded by 20 officers is ridiculous.

Fine arrest the moron. But don't gang up all at once to beat the shit out of him and taze him. That's abuse of authority IMO. Why not taze him to begin with and cuff him? Why not? Cause these jacked up on power pigs all want to get their punches in. Cowards.

You're such a little bitch. If it wasn't for cops you'd probably be dead already. Or we would be under military rule, and if you think cops are bad you have no fucking clue how bad it would be under military law. But you're just another bitch who has no clue what these guys have to deal with day in and day out.

As far as tazing it's not clear enough to see if it was justified or not. It could very well be likely that tazing kept him from getting hurt any more. Sure being tazed sucks, but it's a lot better then ending up with broken wrist/s because you were stupid and resisting.

What you go through in a day does NOT give you the right to treat someone as a lesser being. The "bitch" here is the cops who decided to get their digs in and you defending that chicken shit act makes me wonder how much a bitch you are.

The act of tazing isn't the problem, its when and where. Other cops helping to subdue a suspect is fine but don't throw punches like "Oh goodie we got one boss"! 🙄

Throw beer at cops (crime)
Officer grabs guy (not a crime in context of the beer throwing)
Guy starts throwing punches (crime)
Cops form a "throw a beating committee"

Based on the circumstances, a few punches thrown to get the kid (who threw the first punch) under control is not unreasonable.

Kid does not deserve beating anymore than officer deserved to be punched or have beer thrown at him. However, while the officers have more justification for their actions the kid has no excuse for what he did.

How about:

Cops walking away

Someone throws beer

Cop asks RANDOM girl who did it

She points to her ex boyfriend

Cop assaults guy

Guy defends himself

Guy is then beaten mercilessly and tazed while handcuffed.

It's time for a revolution. I hope the guy sues and gets millions. That cop deserved FAR worse for assaulting an innocent citizen.

I've been in NO several times. I've seen their police in action. I've seen people beaten for no reason. heck, I've seen them shoot unarmed people just for running.

I stay away from police in NO. If I'm walking on the sidewalk and see some coming my way, I cross the street.

That place is crazy.

The only thing I was able to garner out of the video was that someone tossed a drink from off camera at the cop walking away with another guy in cuffs. Because of the camera point of view, we are unable to determine from our point of view who through it. The cop asks the crowd who did it, and someone points to the guy in the red hat and plaid shirt. Which is weird considering that there are other cops around who may have witnessed who actually did it.

Even still, unless a cop WITNESSES such an action that occurred, he has no right to grab the guy by his shirt front. The guy on the other had over reacts and punches the cop. Still, with that video and a good lawyer he should be able to get the charges dismissed as the cop doesn't have the legal ground to detain him in the first place.

Basically what we have here is a hot headed cop that is wound a bit too tight. I can understand the wound up part since dealing with a situation like that at Mardi Gras with a crowd like that can be dicey. Still, that is exactly the type of situation where a LEO must maintain their cool even more so. Inciting a riot from their bad actions is a very real threat.

I've seen enough stupid and horrible shit go down at Mardi Gras to give the cops more then the benefit of a doubt. Having to work Bourbon Street is not something I'd sign up for.

It wasn't like that drunk guy was responding to getting roughed up from behind; he watched the LEO approach him, knew full well who he was, and responded disproportionately to a grab/shove.

Life can be hard for idiots. Can be harder for drunk idiots. No sympathy for that fool, none.

Fuck him.

In this day and age that fuckhead has watched enough videos on youtube of other people getting a beat down for assaulting a police officer. He knew the consequences and chose his path.

He got what he deserved just for the stupid factor alone.

Assaulting a police officer that results in an injury requiring medical attention is consider a felony in Louisiana and punishable up to five years of hard labor

So he deserves to be beaten by a legalized mob because he has seen it happen to others?

Personally I would hate to see a society that docile.

It is funny to read the comments here and on the video host site.....people really have no idea what happens if you are in for longer than one night in the drunk tank at your local station.....

I am no fan of the gang-mentality of County and State guards, and the abuses they commit....let alone local PD shooting unarmed kids here......but punching a cop is stupid, and this kid is currently learning the hard way.

in this particular case i dont think the cops were wrong..

i DID notice though, look at that crowd, man the american people are SO TENSE RIGHT NOW.. if it would have been a time when cops did abuse power, there's a good chance for a riot here, you can literally feel the anxiety in the air, from both the cops, and the crowd..

americans are MAD right now.

Americans also have a short memory. The Rodney King riots happened over a single video of police abuse, and this was before youtube.

There's a reason cops have become far more militarized in the cities, and the city dwellers can largely thank themselves for it.

It isn't just cities. They just raided a rural house because they were making maple syrup, but assumed it was meth. No investigation was done before the kick-in.

They are militarizing because of all the post-9/11 federal anti-terrorism funds flowing in...they have to spend it somehow. Rifles, APCs, and armor are among the toys they love.
